Question about 2000 Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

My 2000 Beetle was in a minor accident. The radio has 'frozen-up'...still displays the last station that it was playing but will not play or allow any changes to be made; can't turn off/on, change channels, nothing. Is the radio just shot, or does it need to be reset? I never knew radios had to be reset. Or could it possibly be a fuse? Any ideas would be helpful....hate to buy new one if this can easily be repaired.

What is the traffic button for in a 2002 alero

According to the owners manual

TRAF (Traffic): Press this button to receive traffic announcements. The traffic announcement brackets will appear on the display. TRAF will appear on the display if the current station broadcasts traffic announcements. If the current station does not broadcast traffic announcements, the radio will seek to a station that does. When the radio finds a station that broadcasts traffic announcements, it will stop. If no station is found, NO TRAFFIC will appear on the display. When a traffic announcement comes on the current radio station or a related network station, you will hear it, even if the volume is muted or a compact disc is playing. If the compact disc player was being used, the compact disc will stay in the player and resume play at the point where it stopped. INFO (Information): If the current station has a message, INFO will appear on the display. Press this button to see the message. If the whole message does not appear on the display, parts of the message will appear every three seconds until the message is completed. To see the parts of the message faster than every three seconds, press this button again. A new group of words will appear on the display. Once the complete message has been displayed, INFO will disappear from the display until another new message is received. Hope this helps.

radio has a four digit code to be able to work,if you do not have the code, you will need to pull radio out and copy serial # on radio to get code from dealership, after you get code turn ign.switch to on position(do not start car)for about an hour or until code appears on display ,enter each code number with ind. station buttons it should come on if it does not enter code again but after last entry hit cd button, you will get 3 attempts before radio goes into failsafe again

Radio display says SAFE and will not play music

You need your radio code its 4 numbers, you use your radio preset station button to change the # press the 1 station button till you put in your code then the # 2 preset station # then 3, then fourth preset. You should find your code in your service manual. when your code is in, press the + or - button on the station search, or refer to your manual. good luck

Yes. I know of two units out there: Denison's IceLink, and the Phatnoise box (or Phatbox, as some call it). I believe both install the same way. You figure out where you want the iPod connector (say, glovebox). Pull the stereo out of the dash, disconnect the CD changer (you'll lose the changer function with these but who cares?), and plug the adapter cable into the changer's port. It'll allow the iPod to play through the factory stereo, and will allow you to control the iPod with the buttons on the factory stereo.
