I think it is a fuel problem and so does my Mech. I would like to think I could fix it with out going in to the tank.

Replace filter, check ecv, replaced starter,

It is not constant just when it is warm outside. And it knows when it is at the Mech, because it runs smooth when he lays hands on it. Running the fuel low is risky but a full tank is hard to handle. So it will be a pump in the future. I know a guy who has been through 4 fuel pumps and still has trouble also. A $600 gamble!

Need more info. Do you know if it is losing fire or fuel? This will help solve it better. Sounds like a sensor is overheating and cutting out though. Any check engine lights?

Whining noise when extreme cold days, that goes away when my 2005 Mariner warms up. Seems to come and go until the car warms up.

Alternators can sometimes whine when start up on a cold morning, they run on full load till they get the battery back up to full charge. When the whining stops, switch on electrical equipment (Headlights, fan full boost, heated rear window) if the whining starts again its the alternator.

Runs fine when cold, not when warm though

The next time it won't start check the fuel pressure you should have 48-55 psi with key on and engine off.

I have a 1996 2.5 liter Dodge dakota that will turn over but not

im assuming youve done basic tune up of plugs, wires, air and fuel filters, oil, distributor if applicable (im guessing not but never owned a dodge)

if it bogs down/stalls at stops only when its hot, try a new egr valve. probably getting stuck open. if not that try heavier oil to see if its losing compression, just one step up. also,

if it runs ok after clearing the computer by disconnecting the battery for a while, probably a dying sensor (most likely o2)

if after clearing computer it still runs bad after warm up, see if it bogs down really bad when letting it warm up from cold without driving (just idle to make sure its not egr system). if it dies or sounds like its close to dead, then its probably something fuel related (clogged/faulty injector, worn fuel pump, bad pump relay)

hope it helps
