Nissan 1999 Maxima is over heating

If I remove the thermostat will it stop it from overheating?

It overheats sitting still and driving down the road. I took it to a mechanic and he just removed the thermostat and it's not overheating, he said I did not need the thermostat until winter time, is this true?

Most likely not. Pulling the thermostat will get you home, but not a great fix. Is it overheating driving down the road or sitting still? If it is overheating driving down the road, look for a clogged radiator or stuck thermostat. If it overheats sitting still, look for your cooling fans not coming on.

The thermostat is there to get your motor up to proper operating temperature. It will run fine without it, but may not get as good of gas mileage due to the motor not heating up.

See if you have a leak in any of your coolant tubes. If no leaks, you may have a bad thermostat that is stuck closed and needs to be replaced asap.

It sounds like the the thermostat that was replaced is probably faulty. This being the cheapest and easiest to do I would start there. I can't reply about the air pockets. I have never heard of that before.

Check or have the electric cooling fan or fans checked, to see if they are coming on, and the radiator cap checked. You've done everything else.

Need location of thermostat for 1999 nissan maxima gle

thermostat in a 99 maxima is right above the alternator. just look down and you will see a hose clamp and a hose. that's the thermostat housing. you will remove the whole housing (3 bolts),because that's the whole thermostat.
