Question about 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 4WD

1 Answer

My 1998 dodge ram 2500 will not start. I believe my asd my be activated. I have checked all relays and fuses all are good. I have 12volts at #30 slot on the asd relay, and when jumpered to the 87 slot I have no voltage at the coil or injectors. I do not hear the fuel pump coming on either. I do have an active ground, at the asd relay. On the fuel relay, when I jumper that, I can hear the pump coming on. Any Ideas?

look on the left or right hand side of where the door panel meets the side of the dash, may be a small finge rpull type door, fuses are behind it,, or check under the hood at the relay center box

I have a 1998 dodge 2500 cummins.my problem is my insturments went out .no tach, onmph fuel gauge.ect. my alt will not charge trans willnot shift. i replaced alt .didnot help. all fuses are good it never...

All this is related to on area a disconnected or open link, This is a common problem on Dodge, inspect the main harness upper right (or upper left) There you see a harness junction wiggle it and see if tach can be restored, also here is the goal use the TACH as your tool as you willgle the wire once the tach on the dash is restore the rest will follow Especially inspect the ECM area. Also transmission fluid, power steering fluid they like to rot the wires, look in harness that are oil soak, what i call wire wick, You only have a open link, In the power distribution box is the ASD relay use this as a start with the key on engine off remove ASD and put it on , does it click if it does then just look for a open/bad connection harness

you have a direct short in the main starting line,ie the battery to the starter or the starter wires take a very good look and you will find/see the problem it will be a main red wire touching ground/earth.adrian,,

Car won't start. There is no spark at the plugs. I replaced the Camshaft Sensor and Crankcase sensor. Checked to see if there was 8 volts going to these components and nothing. Checked the power going into...

check your fuses if they are all good ,check all the ground wires on the engine make sure they are all making good connections, and if still not starting then its a very good chance that your PCM (computer) is bad. you can buy a used one for little money at a salvage yard.

1996 Dodge ram 2500. Both dashboard lights and headlights went out at the same time. All other electrics work. All fuses seem to be good. What would cause this and how do I fix it?

Both the dash lights and headlamps, including the tail lights are fed through a fuse link under the bonnet, then the tail, dash lights are run through fuses as are the headlamps. Firstly, check the fuses electrically not visually. Use a test probe (available from your local auto parts shop, not expensive) and clip one end to a good ground on the vehicle chassis and use the pointy end to check both ends of each fuse, the test lamp should light up on BOTH ends. If it lights up on one end only, then that fuse has failed and should be replaced. If it does not light up at either end of the fuse, that circuit is without power so turn on the ignition and lights but DO NOT start the motor. Then check the fuses again. If all looks good, locate the light relays which could be under the hood in their own enclosure or plugged in under the dash and check each one for inputs and outputs. If the relay pins are numbered, you should have power to pins 85 OR 86 but not both and 30. Pins 85 and 86 are the coil connections and a power supply and ground connection to these pins should turn the relay on (you should hear a click) pin 30 is the main load supply and pin 87 is the output supply. This means that pin 87 should be active whenever the relay is turned on. power missing from pin 30, check fuses and fuse links. Power at pin 30 but not at pin 87 when the relay is on, replace the relay. Essentially, the light switch turns on the relay and the relay switches the power to the lights, one relay for dash and tail and two relays for the headlamps (high and low beam). You may find that the vehicle has two headlamp relays for each side headlamps, a high and low beam for the right side lights and the same for the left. If you have no power to one of the switching connections (85 and 86) then again check fuses and check the light switch itself.
