What does it mean when the dashboard gauges all go the right, right after ignition? They go to the right for a second and then return to where they are supposed to be.

Do they go fully to the right or only part way for some of them? Please indicate how far each one goes. The RPMs should go pretty far while most of the rest should not. Is this before starting the car and just in the ignition position or after you go to the run position.

thanks

It means they are working properly. Almost all cars do that. It is a gauge test.

This is useually caused by either a low battery voltage state or a poor connection at the battery due to corrosion of the cables or terminals or both, have the battery tested and the alternator at any autozone or kragen it's free.

1995 Buick Le Saber Instrument panel stopped working, except The Speedo which is not electronic, but the oil gauge /Fuel center, Temp pegged right,Battery dead left Is there a main fuse? A relay?

This is perhaps the first time I came across this situation. There is definitely fuse for it and since we are completing the circuit with the key itself. Since car is starting that means ECM detects that ignition is on. I am sharing a link see if this helps http://www.wikihow.com/Fix-Dashboard-Lights-That-Won't-Light

I have a spanner symbol on my 407. what does this mean??

You need to carry out the periodical car service due (e.g. engine oil & filter, air filter, fuel filter, cabin air filter). The "service" spanner symbol "reset" button is placed on the lower right corner of the dashboard. See picture below:

tdisline_303.jpg
Then you should reset the "service" spanner symbol by pressing on the "reset" button on dashboard, when ignition key is in OFF position. Hold the button pressed and turn ignition key in ON position. Hold the button pressed and see on the dashboard successive numbers will appear: "10", "9", "8", ... , "1", "0". Then release the button and switch OFF the ignition key. The "service" spanner symbol followed by "20000 km" (or "30000 km" depending of the engine type), will appear for few seconds after turning ignition key in ON position, and will dissapear after engine starting. The car service due was reseted.

Please do rate my response. Thanks!

GMC Envoy, dashboard gauges not working. Started with the gas gauge, then the battery, then the temperature, not the RPM. It seems like the gauges don't reset (or return to zero) when ignition is shut...

Could be a couple of things, one is your ignition switch may be going bad.

The other is, the little stepper motors on the back of the cluster, may be going too, both are very common.

By the way, normal operating temperature for the I6 engine is 210 degrees.

2002 Ford Explorer when ignition is turned on all gauges including speedometer max out and odometer resets, after a few seconds everything goes to normal

Are the gauges digital? If so, then when the ignition is turned on, it automatically does that. I have a 1996 Lincoln Town Car with digital gauges. We I turn on the ignition, it does the same thing your Explorer is doing. However, if your gauges are not digital, and it returns to normal, then I see no problem. If it does not return to normal, then the computer that controls those devices needs servicing.

Sounds like possibly the ignition switch is going out. Try jiggling the key in the ignition in the on position and see if your lights come back on.

2000 bmw 540 dashboard temperature gauge goes to

When a gauge goes bad, you have to decide if it is the sending unit or the gauge itself. If you unplug and short the wire to the sending unit, the gauge should go to max (one way or the other), and the opposite when the wire is not connected to anything. If that works, then it is probably the sending unit. If that does not work, it is probably the gauge itself.

I removed the battery terminals wrongly and all the displays on the dashboard are not responding while i can still start the ignition and move the car around. Not even the fuel gauge,temperature...

Try to do it again, but in right order this time. If it doesn't work, you have to take it to the authorized dealer service to be reprogrammed.

With the ac, sounds like you definitely have a short with the ac electrical wires. Have a mechanic check that out. 2. The wiring for the dashboard gauges may have tears or something is causing high resistance in them or you may need a new dashboard itself. Have that checked too.

As far as the brakes when you trying to change gears, what do you mean brake lock wont open? Finally with the RPM, I dont think your dashboard gauge is working correctly so you may need that replaced also.
