Question about 1998 Dodge Dakota

1 Answer

I cannot get the hood on my '98 Dodge Dakota to close securely. I believe that the hood release cable is working fine, as I was able to open the hood. I have sprayed the latch with WD-40. It initially seemed like it was not moving freely, but I can still not get it to close all the way. What can I do short of taking it apart? Is it possible that I will need to replace the latch? If so where would I get those parts.

Have someone hold in on the release lever while you try and shut the hood. Sometimes the cable can get a little stretched and not want to go back into position. If that doesn't work, see if you can manually close the latch with a screwdriver. See if anything is binding when you do this.

1992 Dodge Dakota blows 50 amp fuse under hood when started. Runs fine when started, but several items, such as windows, locks, A/C fan don't work.

Most likely one of the above is shorted out . Remove the cables from all the above units , remove the battery terminals, using a OHM meter probe each hot wire to earth all should show open circuit if no short to earth in wiring, next probe the hot terminals on the above units to earth or unit body, all good units should show open circuit , the closed circuit reading is the faulty one.

How do I open the hood if the release isn't working? It's a 96 Dodge Ram 1500. I don't know if the cable is broken, or needs adjustmebt.

Pull the release while helper presses down then lifts on hood. If it opens , lubricate the latch assembly before you close it again.

Hood will not open due to the release lever on the inside on a 1993 dodge caravan tried pulling the cable but it still will not release the hood

Problem could be the other end of cable came loose from hood release latch under hood. You need to look through the grill closely and see if it did. I have had a few dodge caravans that this has happend to.

1998 S-10 blazer broken hood cable

i believe you can remove the grille without opening the hood and that will give you access to the hood release so you can open it manually and then fix the broken cable
Hope this helps!

Hood release won't work.

you will have to go under the front of the car and reach up theough the grill and the radiator, the big space, and pulll ******* the release cable, if that does not work, you may have to cut the coating and metal braiding to expose the inner cable to pull on it....
