What engines fit 85 mustang?

I have an 85 mustang, NOT a gt or 5.0. It currently has a 3.8 in it but the motor is locked up and we wanted to change it out. What other size engines are compatible? I am having a hard time finding a motor to fit.
Thanks!

You can put the 302 in it also. But, if you are going to change the engine from the original you will need to match the electronics to the new engine. In other words you will need to get the correct module for the engine to match the firing order and fuel air parameters. It can be done, but you need to know precisely what you are doing. I hop this hasn't discouraged you. Then there is going to be the task of obtaining the correct linkages and cables to the throttle. Good luck. If you need more help jump back onto this site and ask. We are glad to help out.

95 mustang gt how to change oil pan gasket

There is no simple way.. I have done it with the motor in and out.. It took less time to pull the motor and change the pan than it did to drop the cross member , undo the engine and trans mounts. I don't recommend doing it with the motor in.

2001 mustang gt,all access. work fully charged

I would suspect the starter solenoid has failed.

A starter solenoid (or starter relay) is the part of an automobile which relays a large electric current to the starter motor, which in turn sets the engine in motion. In many vehicles the solenoid also engages the starter pinion with the ring gear of the engine.

The starter solenoid receives a large electric current from the car battery and a small electric current from the ignition switch. When the ignition switch is turned on, a small electric current is sent to the starter solenoid. This causes the starter solenoid to close a pair of heavy contacts, thus relaying a large electric current to the starter motor, which in turn sets the engine in motion. The starter motor is an electric motor that initiates piston motion in a car's internal combustion engine before it can power itself.

83 mustang gt

In a 83 MUSTANG GT the correct answer is BOTH. As a 5.0L and a TURBO CHARGED 4 cyinder were offered.

1983 Mustang GT
  • Engine:
    • 5.0L horsepower increased to 175 HP when 4V carb replaced 2V carb from 1982 (Holley 4180C series).
    • Exhaust system was revised (less restrictive).
    • 4-speed SROD was only transmission available until early December 1982. In December, new 5-speed T5 became standard GT transmission (4-speed remained on option list).
    • Block and crank were revised to accomodate a 1-piece rear main seal in December 1982.
    • The new "Turbo GT" with a turbo charged 4 cylinder engine was available beginning late in the model year - 145 HP and featured the same suspension and other features of the V8 Mustang GT.
