1994 Plymouth Acclaim - while driving, engine temperature guage maxes and 'check engine' light comes on, then it drops back to normal. All other systems continue to work correctly. This problem occured both before and after an instrument cluster replacement due to speedometer failure.

Check/change your temp sensor first. Could also be a wiring problem, such as grounding out against something.

The best things you do is to check the relay circuit for a short to ground or voltage. .sometimes when you attempt to start or crank the engine it will be dropping voltage due to short to grounds. ...

Check engine light comes on and then the temperature gauge goes up to hot

Mine did it too.... The problem is the Engine Power Relay.

The Engine Power Relay is in the relay box in the engine compartment. Aftermarket relay is cheap, but the original Ssangyong part will last many years longer.

Hope this helps.

While my mother was driving her 1994 Plymouth Acclaim the engine went dead and would not start. Please help

1994 ok I would start be checking the fuel pressure, if the fressure is fine then I would check to see if the timing is right.

Replaced thermostat and water pump. Continue to heat up and then "click" needle moves down to normal.

As soon as the temperature in the engine reachs the temperature of the thermostat rating i.e. 195 F or 95C, it opens. Then the temp. guage goes back to normal and the coolant heating in the engine begins again & the guage will even out after a number of thermostat openings. Make sure you retop off the the antifreeze after it has recicled a few time because of vapour lock etc. Good luck!

Check engine light won't go out on my plymouth

You need the scanner to turn the light off.Your pcm is throwing an engine code. When you do turn it off it will probably come back on until you fix the problem. Most shops will scan it for free. They can tell you what is wrong.
