2000 buick lesabre has 64000 miles and uses a quart of oil in 3000 miles. Want to know what would cause this.

According to GM 1 quart per 1,500 miles is an acceptable oil consumption tolerance. 1 quart in 3k isn't bad.

I've had several gm 3.1 and 3.4 liters that have had there oil consumption issues remedied after the lower intake gaskets where replaced due to coolant leaking.

There are a couple of common problems that can cause oil consumption. Valve seals, bad rings, and PCV valves.

Valves seals would require a valve job which would requirethe removal of the heads. Rings would require a motor rebuild. Both of these are expensive options and oil is still pretty cheap.

Replacing the PCV valve might help. On the 3.8 it will be under the MAP sensor on the passenger side of the intake plenum.

As for as the intake gaskets, its a possibility but I don't have any hard evidence this could be the problem on a 3.8. Eventually the gaskets will start to leak oil. If you decide to replace them at that point I guess you will find out. I wouldn't do it on a hunch, its not a cheap repair.

Where is the PCV valve located on a 2001 Buick Park ave 3800?

Should be on one of the valve covers, it will have a hose running to the valve cover with the PCV valve seated into the cover.

I have a 1989 buick lesabre 3.8 and want to change

Remove PCV valve from rocker cover. Run engine at i
dle. Place thumb over open end of PCV valve to
check for vacuum. If there is no vacuum at valve, c
heck for obstruction in manifold port, hoses or PCV
valve. Repair or replace as necessary.

Turn engine off. Remove PCV valve. Shake valve and
listen for rattle of check valve inside. If a clear
rattle is not heard, replace PCV valve.

Visually inspect valve for varnish or deposits whic
h may make PCV valve operation sticky, restricted o
r
cause incomplete seating of valve. Replace if neces
sary. An engine must be sealed for the PCV system t
o
function as designed. If leakage, sludging or dilut
ion of oil is noted AND the PCV system is functioni
ng
properly, check engine for cause and repair as requ
ired to insure PCV system will continue to function
properly. An engine operating without any crankcase
ventilation can be damaged so it is important to
replace PCV valve and air cleaner breather at regul
ar intervals (at least every 30,000 miles). Check a
ll hoses
and clamps for failure or deterioration.

Where is a pvc valve located on 2000 buick lesabre 3.8

The pcv valve is located under the map sensor in a plastic housing. If you stand on the passenger side of the vehicle and look under the hood, the map sensor is the sensor right in front of you. It should have three wires going to it. If you look closely, the sensor is clipped into a type of cap. If you grab the cap the sensor is clipped into and twist it counterclockwise, it should come off and the pcv valve will be inside. You may need new o-rings to prevent oil consumption. You may also need a needle-nose pliers to remove the sensor from the upper intake manifold.

PCV location on a 2000 buick lesabre

Open hood, top left side between the valve covers. There is a "funky" plastic housing that turns counter-clockwise (less than 1 inch of travel). then pull straight up to reveal the "missing" pcv valve.

Pcv valve

The PCV valve is hidden on top of the intake manifold down in a little enclosure. There are two small bolts holding the PCV cover. Often there is a fairly large vacuum line coming into the enclosure. Remove the cover and pull the PCV valve that sits down into a gasket. Simple
