Question about 1988 Chevrolet Beretta

1 Answer

Idle problem/horn stuck while not around car

My 88 Beretta idles funny when I start it and when I am in drive and stopped. When I first start it, it sounds like someone is revving the engine up and the RPM's go up to 2000 for a few seconds then down to what I assume is a normal 1000. When I am in drive and I stop, the RPMS go down to 600, jump to 800, and then drop to 0 as the engine dies - if I place the car in PARK right as I stop it will not die. Last night, I was sleeping, and my roommate woke me up at around 10pm saying ''your alarm is going off on your car!''. Well I don't have an alarm so this freaked me out. I went outside and my horn was going off waking up all the neighbors. I disconnected the battery and then looked for the fuse for the horn. I took it out and reconnected the battery and that stopped it. I'm wondering if taking that fuse out has anything to do with this idle problem I'm having now. Anyone know what is going on here?

2007 Lincoln Navigator idles hard when parked or stopped

What do you mean by would idle hard ? Don't you mean ruff or inconstant . Did it idle like that before the plugs were replaced ? If not maybe one of the plugs got cracked while being installed ! Take it back to who replaced the plugs an have them check it before you go chasing problems that aren't there.

I have a 96 Chev. Beretta, and hard to start with sputtering and sneezing after misfire. and then will eventually start but very high idle speed.

If the check engine light is on I would check it for trouble codes first.
The high idle could be a vac leak or faulty idle air control valve.

22r rough idle

Fuel injected or carburetor? If it has a carb check the idle circuit! Also look down the top of carb with air filter off and make sure fuel is not dripping down the inside venturies. Take some carb cleaner an check for a lean mixture at idle and also use the carb cleaner to check for vacuum leaks around base of carb.

My 1989 Berretta GT stalls every time I slow down or stop..where is the idle screw?

You more than likely have a vacuum leak somewhere. Inspect all hoses and intake bolts. While the engine is running wiggle all the hoses around and listen for a hiss. Check the one that runs to the vacuum pot as well. tighten intake bolts. There is really no way to adjust the idle. Something else is wrong. It could be the idle control sensor, but you would have an engine light on if that was the case.

Ok my 88 beretta is having stallin issues,it will

Buy a code reader or borrow one if you have a friend that has one. Sounds like ICM (Igniton Control) Or if it isnt fire then try fuel filters. Could even be water in the fuel. hard call without inspecting it

Idle air control

all the sudden the check engine light came on and it started to idle funny and dying at stops. I had a diagnostic done on it and changed out the idle air control valve but it doent seem any different. and the check engine light is still throwing the same code. we adjusted the idle up so i could drive it with out it dying but it is still acting funny.
