Question about 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle, and the passenger door electronics are not working. I'm trying to figure out how to check and diagnose why its faulty. It came without motor/regulator, so I added one, and then the door light came on when open. Still the remaining electronics don't work. What other parts might I check to try and complete the other circuits? All the fuses seem good. Even my radio doesn't make sound through the speakers. My driver's side door lights all display red, but my lock button doesn't work at all on the driver's side, and the mirror switch is broken too. Would this have anything to do with the other door not working at all? I bought the Car from some Russians, who acted like it was something else, but their story didn't check out, so I'm suspicious that they did something. Let me know if there is anything I should try replacing/checking/knowing to start troubleshooting? Thanks!

In regards to the last comment. The wires are indeed connected to the internal harness in the footwell. The one thing that works on the door is the light which turns on when the door is open. Everything else isn't working. I read somewhere that certain electronics will not work if another part (in the circuit isn't working correctly), and I'm hoping that someone out there could tell me what the circuit progression is for these cars in regards to the passenger door, vs. the driver's door, and the control switches. thanks!

Sounds very much like what we call in the uk as a cut and shut (two cars made into one) not very good but souns like they might have just replaced the doors with matching ones and thus not being very smart they prob not wired them up, if you check the corrigated tube and the hinge end of the door for joining points and also check if wires just pull out of main strut. if so then you will prob find that the connecting wires are just tucked into the sides of the footwells. hope this helps?

How do i adjust the paasenger seat in my 1999 VW beetle?

There is a D shaped handle on the side of the seat nearest the door. Lift up on it and the seat back will fold forward, and the entire seat mechanism will lift up and to the front, giving your passengers room to get into the back seat. Simply push the seat back toward the rear of the car to set it back in place; it will lock itself down once it's back in its original position.

its called "passive arming" the dealer can disable it or you can try a local Car Audio/Security shop. the installers that work in the back know what to do in a matter of seconds.. good luck.

1999 VW Beetle

Hi,
The first thing to do is check the fuse - it's position will be in the Haynes / Bentley manuals. If you don't have one and don't want to get one (they are really useful) then you could take out all the fuses one by one and test them or visually inspect them. The location of the fuse panel will be in the Users Manual.

If that doesn't fix it, please come back and ask again. Hope this helps. D.
