I have a nissan caravan, so I dont know how overdrive works, please help me!

if it is automatic then when the engine rpms is set to correspond with the tail shaft rpms then the transmission control module effects a change into over drive
If there is a change in conditions ,such as a loss of vacuum from acceleration , the TCM down shifts out of OD for better acceleration, return to od when things are again in balance
the same on slowing down--the tcm sensors report an imbalance so the tcm keeps shifting down until the car has stopped.

You have internal transmission damage I expect the clutches on third and fourth gear are wiped out. Its either that or a solenoid gone bad that holds those clutches pressure get it in a transmission shop soon to avoid whole transmission replacement costs.

you realy need a hand held computer to erase trouble code, but what the tow button does is it locks the transmission so it doesnt go into overdrive while towing, you can manualy put shifter into drive ,not over drive

2002 Ford Ranger transmission slipping?

The longer you drive with that condition, the more damage you will cause. Park it until you can repair it.

Think of it as how long would you think it is okay to run your engine without oil? Zero.

I drive a manual transmission 2000 Outback. I was stopped on a steep hill, and when I started trying to go, my RPMs went up to 5000 and I couldn't go anywhere, so I stopped trying and saw some light grey...

From your description, it does sound like the clutch has again failed.
You can still safely drive the car, provided you avoid heavy acceleration and don't negotiate steep inclines.
However, the clutch slip will only get worse, so get it fixed ASAP.
If the new clutch has failed after only 12 months service, perhaps your clutch pressure plate should also be replaced.
Note that operator poor clutch technique (excessive slippage during starts) will also cause early clutch failure.

Maybe a transmission problem?

If you're only in "D", you should switch to "OD" when driving at higher speeds. "D" only allows you to move up to third gear whereas "OD" will move you into fourth. You're over-working your transmission by driving in "D".
