If your gas cap is tight, it means you have an EVAP system leak somewhere. You would need to check all the EVAP hoses, or run a smoke test.

How to fix evap lager leak on a 2006 chevy hhr

The light will go off, if the problem was fixed. Gas caps don't cause a large leak. Unless you put fuel in it with the car running. Large leaks are usually the vent solenoid stuck open, a break in the line or charcoal canister.

My check engine light came on after I failed to close gas cap tightly on my 2008 Acadia, how do I reset computer

It should reset itself after a few start/stop cyles.
If not, or you're in a hurry, find the ECM fuse and pull it out, wait a few seconds and replace it.

if you go to autozone they will check the codes for free, and have them reset it.
don't unhook the battery some some might tell you, this will just open a new can of worms, like the radio locking its self up and the alarm system arming up.

My wife is stuck at the airport. the key fob on

On the driver's side door handle, there is a cap covering the key hole on the right side. On the bottom of the cap is a small ****. Use the valet key to pry it up and off. Then you may open the door, most likely sounding the alarm, so you will need to insert the remote in the ignition to stop the NOISE!!!! Hope this helps. This is how I lock my remote away when I go somewhere to run.

2006 Suburban-''P0449' gas cap not put on right. check engine light came on. Put gas cap on right and reset switch. light went off one day and came back on. DO i need a new gas cap?

It may need a gas cap, and if you do make sure you get it from the dealer. Not all caps sold on the aftermarket are right for your truck. The code that sets is "evap small leak detected" and while the cap is the most common cause on newer cars, all it takes is a tiny crack in a hose to let the air into the closed system. Replacing a 4 year old cap is the easiest, but if it comes back you will need to find a shop that has a smoke machine. There is a port on the system you hook up to and pumps smoke at very low pressure into the closed system and you follow all the lines until you see smoke coming out of the leak. It is work the cost to have it diagnosed because you cannot find the leak with out the machine and the repair is generally nominal in cost. In most states it will not pass inspection with this light on.

Hope this helps
