I have to replace a idler pulley tensioner on my 96 Ford Thunderbird LX, its the little round black peice that helps pull the belt, and I was wanting to know how I would go about replaceing it, what type...

yes you need to remove the belt completely then remove the center bolt in the pulley becarefull removing the bolt it could reverse thead (instead of left to loosen its right to loosen) if it is the tensioner pulley its more then likely reverse thread , if its just the ildler pulley its normal.

How do i change the drive belt on a 97 Mirage

To change the drive belt you will need to find the tensioner pulley justt loosen the bolt /nut in the center of the pulley and then wind the pulley slider down usually located on the back side of the pulley. wind it down until you can slip the belt off. if the is 2 belt say for instance power steering and ac etc remove the outer belt first the power steering pump may have the tensioner on it same concept though. loosen nut/bolt and unwind til the belt slip off the pulley. remember to disconnect your battery because its better safe than sorry. Good luck!

I don't need the belt. What I want to know is how to change the belt after the old one is off. Can't move alternator to slide belt over last pulley. what's next?

You need to loosen the belt tensioner bolt to give you some slack to make the last pulley. Please take a look here Click Me for a photo of the belt tensioner. I hope this helped and please dont forget to rate my answer and have a great weekend!

To tight

You should have a serpentine belt. You will see a pulley that attaches to a bracket. This pulley is spring mounted so it keeps the proper tension on the belt at all times. You will need to use a 3/8 drive ratchet or breaker bar to insert in to the square slot to pull the tensioner pulley back to remove the belt.

I need to do serpatine belt on 96 ford taruaus 3.0

On the Inside of the Engine Compartment you will find the Routing Sticker for the Belt to Reinstall. Locate the Tensioner (Will look like a Pulley that has one Round Pulley Under the Belt and One larger Round Pulley Mounted Above that. In the Middle of the Large Pulley there is a Bolt. Get a Wratchet and Turn it. It will Lower the Pulley under the Belt and Loosen the Tension Off of the Belt. Remove the Belt. Follow the Diagram Under Hood to Reinstall.
