The 2003 Nissan Altima's user manual says to use only Genuine Nissan Matic D ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid). Dexron III/Mercon or equivalent may also be used.

When to change automatic transmission gear oil

The auto transaxle/differential fluid and filter should be changed every 30,000 miles or 24 months. The transaxle fluid and differential lubricant use the same Dextron III automatic transmission fluid. If you have a three speed automatic transaxle, the transaxle differential has a separate lubricant supply that should be checked every 15,000 miles or every 12 months. By the way........ see if there is a Half Price Books or other used book store in or near your town. I find used repair manuals like Hayes or Chiltons for $8.00 or less all the time. Hope this helps. Dear Sirs, I own Pathfinder 2006. Recently Oil goes out from MAX mark to MIN mark within 8000 km (5000 miles). My dealer tells me that this is regular consumption which is confirmed by NISSAN officials....

  • Well MAX to MIN on the dipstick is a quart of oil in difference. You need to have the oil changed every 3,000 miles (5,000 miles for a synthetic). I don't think that a 2006 Nissan should burn a quart of oil every 5,000 miles. That seems a bit absurd. For much older vehicles this might be true but for a 2006, much more efficient vehicle, it should not burn a quart every 5.000 miles.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

2001 Nissan Sentra XE: Automatic Transmission Fluid I've searched the Owner's Manual about changing the ATF. It provides the intervals for checking and topping up the fluid, but as for REPLACING...

no, its not maintenance free, you still have to check the fluid level, and change the oil and filter in the transmission about every 50 to 70 thousand miles(due to the fact your not towing or having to to the car). This just maintenance that should be done. The fluid will break down over time, and need to be changed. The filter needs to changed in-case of getting clogged. Yes, dirt, and stuff do get in. When you take the car to your mechanic for the transmission filter and oil change, ask, they should check the differential(should you have rear-wheel drive). As for us, its part of the service package. We do the complete change for one price(oil, transmission, check ALL fluids, (older cars get greased) tires and tire pressure). Ask them what is all included in the job, and the total price. You can get great deals that way. I hope this helped

My car runs perfect but it has code p1870. oil trans looks a little light brown, i dont have any problem with the trans, it works very smooth. why check engine light it says code p1870????? can a dirty oil...

yes, when you burn your transmission fluid, its just like when you burn your motor oil. Lower vescosity means more friction. more friction, more heat, more heat messes with your sensors inside the trans causing them to send a code to the ecm. do a filter change and transmission flush. clear the code and retest.

Mileage for transmission Servcie for 2006 Dodge Sprinter

160,000 KM (100,000 miles) intervals under normal driving conditions. 80,000 KM (50,000 miles) under severe condition. The differential also has the save service time as the transmission. Good luck and hope this helps.

Noise and vibration above 50 mph

Sounds like front differential or front drive axle issues. Check the front differential gear oil then take er' to the dealership before you end up spending a bunch of $. Most people change their oil frequently in the engine but forget about flushing the transmission fluid and changing oil in the front and rear differentials. I have three Ford 4X4s. Two which really get used hard. The 93 has 311K miles and still runs excellent. Trans and differentials get a fluid change every 25K miles and moble one synthetic engine oil changes every 5k miles.
