Question about 1983 BMW 7 Series
I just got the car. I think it's been in storage for the past seven years. Spark plugs and wires look new, but I think it runs too rich. Spark plugs will foul out and then it will only be running on 4 or 5 cylinders. The exhaust also smell rich. I'm going to try and replace the O2 sensor. Anything else I should check?
You have oil leaks getting on the exhaust system, they are getting into the car, have the car checked over to find source of leaks.

I would first check for a vacuum leak. Common areas of intake leaks are: 1. The crankcase vent valve located under the intake. 2.Check the intake boot at the throttle housing. You will find that there is an elbow where a small hose goes to your idle valve. Using your hand feel in the elbow area for a hole in the rubber. Your tech can use brake cleaner and spray the intake to check for leaks or use a smoke tester. 3.Possible failing Mass Air Meter. At idle, in park, and a/c not on the meter reading should be appr. 18-22 hz

i have had the same problem at times. my car would start and then shut off. but i found that i needed oil and check my oil and it was a quater low put in some oil and everything went fine i notices that everytime the oil is low the same thing happens also depending on the position of the car being park meaning that if you are in a down hill position or up hill position i will do the same. so you have to accelarate for 1 minute to have the oil go up. i hope this works
