Question about 1983 BMW 7 Series

Open Question

1983 BMW 733i runs rich.

I just got the car.  I think it's been in storage for the past seven years.  Spark plugs and wires look new, but I think it runs too rich.  Spark plugs will foul out and then it will only be running on 4 or 5 cylinders.  The exhaust also smell rich.  I'm going to try and replace the O2 sensor.  Anything else I should check?

SOURCE: 2000 BMW 323i Check Engine Light Problem-10 codes!!! Help!

I would first check for a vacuum leak. Common areas of intake leaks are: 1. The crankcase vent valve located under the intake. 2.Check the intake boot at the throttle housing. You will find that there is an elbow where a small hose goes to your idle valve. Using your hand feel in the elbow area for a hole in the rubber. Your tech can use brake cleaner and spray the intake to check for leaks or use a smoke tester. 3.Possible failing Mass Air Meter. At idle, in park, and a/c not on the meter reading should be appr. 18-22 hz

SOURCE: Car starts then immediately idles down and shuts off

i have had the same problem at times. my car would start and then shut off. but i found that i needed oil and check my oil and it was a quater low put in some oil and everything went fine i notices that everytime the oil is low the same thing happens also depending on the position of the car being park meaning that if you are in a down hill position or up hill position i will do the same. so you have to accelarate for 1 minute to have the oil go up. i hope this works

The car wont start it will wind over but wont start mechanic's have checked it out and cant work it out they think the injectors are not opening but prior to this prob the car run ruogh at idle and smelt...

Sounds more like injectors are stuck open. Pull a spark plug to see if it's wet with fuel. The old 7s have fuel accumulators also that were a common probe on old 7s. I would have BMW look at it to be honest. Their guys have been around these for a long time and know the little intricacies of the older BMWs and they don't just throw parts at a problem. Some specialty shops are good and highly recommended but on something like this, I'd have BMW look at it.

No spark on a 1984 BMW 733i 3.2 litre good computer all it does is crank good cranksensor

Have you checked for spark out of the spark plug wires and out of the coil wire? Also, I would recommend checking for battery voltage at the coil. If your crank sensor and engine electronics (DME) are ok, I would suspect the secondary ignition components. Also, don't rule out a bad rotor button or cap. Make sure you do not have any oil inside the distributor cap.
