No the door handle is easily replaceable. you do have to remove the door panel and roll the window all the way up. 2 10mm nuts inside the door cavity and one bolt on the door jam near the lock mechanism. These handles are made of plastic and degrade and break easily after 3 or 4 years. Every toyota owner has to deal with this at some point. I also recommend buying the new handles on ebay as opposed to the dealer. The aftermarket handles are better quality than the original and MUCH cheaper. They are ALWAYS available on ebay.
you can take a screw driver and pry it off. Be careful if you have power windows, if it falls right off then it could pull the wires loose. The panels have clips that clip to the door. Therefore, the only way to get the panel off is to pry it off.
ok. first u remove the door panel(s), with the window rolled up, u will be able to see the back side of the exterior door handle. there will be three bolts, they are size 10metric. there is also a rod attached to the handle held in place by a plastic clip, remove the rod, then remove the three bolts. from the outside remove the exterior door handle being careful not to scratch painted surface. Repeat for the other door(s). Repeat this for installation.
remove the plugs in the the handle. (the part that you hold to close the door),then unscrew should be 2 large phillips heads. remove window winder if not electric, remove plastic cover around door release handle. remove inner mirror trim. then remove door trim carefullly pull it towards you it should pop out every couple of inches around the edge. remove inner plastic .then remove handle from door and from metal rod should be a plastic locking clip just pop it too the side. fit new handle then reverse these instructions.
