2002 Chrysler Sebring convertable 2.7L engine coolent leak

Small gasket coolent seepage, just started, on top of the 2.7L Sebring GTC engine. there are 2 hoses ~5/8"od going into a small polymer assembly with a std pneumatic QD fitting on top and one hoseappears to be a resovoir overflow return. It's on the L side(facing)next to the coolent tank. The 2 small ~5/16 bolt heads are very snug. What is this and is it covered by the 7/70,000 warranty. We bought this car new in 2003 and it came with the 2003 7/70 warranty. I have ~62,500 miles on it and have had no problems till now. All proper maintance has been done.

Its probably not covered. depending on which direction your engine is facing there are two different styles of upper radiator hose housings. one is actually called a crossover tube and there is a steel line that goes under the intake to the back of the engine. this requires pulling the upper intake which is no big deal because the gaskets can be reused. if its leaking it does need replaced..

one key note is that if you ever notice coolant coming from the left hand side of the engine behind the alternator, bring it into a shop imidiatly because your water pump is most likley going out. it is timing chain driven and the engine is a high interferance engine. this means that if the chain slips the engine can be ruined for good. plus when the water pump gets bad enough, it leaks coolant into the oil and will cause engine failure quickly. not trying to scare you. the engine is an amazing engine other than that little tid bit.

Replace the water outlet housing. Most likely not covered, but doesn't hurt to ask.

I have a 2004 Chrysler Sebring convertable, Problem: enging starts up nice everythings seems to be working but when I attempt to shift in to any gear the engine abruptly shuts off. [Edit]

Hi!!
Your problem is most likely the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid valve. Check Fuse and Related wiring, if all looks OK, remove transmission pan to get to the TCC Solenoid. The solenoid packs are known to leak. You will need to remove:
  • The transmission cooling lines
  • the Speed Sensor,
  • the plug on the solenoid block,
  • the 3 tenmm bolts on the top of the Solenoid pack,
  • the solenoid pack,
  • old gasket (the new pack comes with new gasket)

Install
  • The new Solenoid Pack,
  • the new gasket ,
  • the Speed Sensor and,
  • Transmission Cooling Lines

Start vehicle, check Transmission fluid level, check for proper shifting and have computer reset.
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

2002 chrysler sebring 2.4l leaking water is it water pump

Yes you are correct the water pump is driven by the timing belt so if it leaks it will run down the back side of the engine from behind the timing belt cover :)

you need to loosen the clamp on the throttle body and unplug the map sensor then there are two clips on the other end pull that out and you should be able to pull the filter out you don't need to take the box off.
