One day I could not remove my key out of my Pontiac Aztek. After removing the shell of the ignition, I figured out how to release my key. ... It was a toggle switch that was an on/off button. It was just long enough to reach the ...
It sounds like your interlock cable might be malfunctioning. There is a small cable that goes from the ignition switch to the shifter. It is what makes it to where you can not take the vehicle out of gear unless the key is on and the brake pedal depressed. It might not be letting the shifter go all of the way into park witch will not let the key come out of the ignition.
Is the battery dead, if so the key may not come out untill you get power again. Also make sure it is in park, and try moving the shifter down to drive, then back into park again. If that dosen't work put some pressure on the shifter pushing it twards park, and try taking the key out while doing that.
You might want to try to turn the steering wheel a little while turning the key off. If it doesn't help, please do spray wd40 on the key hole and let it sit for atleast 5mins. then turn the key off while turning the wheel. This usually works.
Hope you find this information helpful enough and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!
