Question about 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier
I have a 2004 chevy venture, when i start the car the abs light will come on for the bulb check and then will go out. after driving for at least a half hour, when i apply the brakes i hear a groaning noise, after applying the brakes 6 or 10 times with this noise the abs light comes on, but the groanig noise stops. whenever you shut the car off it repeats this same process as stated in this question. thankyou
Per your description, I would suspect you have a faulty wheel speed sensor. Take you vehicle to your local Auto Zone or Advanced Auto and have the codes pulled for free. Write them down and let me know what they are and we can go from there.

On vehicles equipped with antilock brakes (ABS), a second warning light is provided to warn if a problem occurs within the ABS system. The ABS lamp comes on when the ignition is turned on for a bulb check, then goes out after the engine starts. If the ABS warning light remains on or comes on while driving, it indicates a fault has occurred in the ABS system.
What happens next depends on the nature of the fault. On most applications, the ABS system disables itself if the ABS warning light comes on and remains on.
