Car was running fine all day yesterday. Went to get gas and when I try to start my car, it made a clicking noise, would not turn over, had to have it jumpstarted. Now what?

went to see about battery, had a dead cell. So I bought a new battery. The one in the car was the original battery (8 years old). Hope I did not waste my money on a new one.

Check your battery cable connections. Remove cables from post, clean with post cleaner, $3 at Kmart, Sears, auto store.
If that is not it, have auto store test battery (for free) after you charge battery. You could have a shorted cell in the battery.
Check to see if battery is being charged by alternator this way:

  • Test battery voltage with volt meter. It should read about 12 1/2 volts. (Engine off).
  • Test battery with engine running. It should read about 14 volts if the alternator is putting out.
Hopefully it's just dirty battery connections.

If this solves your problem, please rate as fixya. And, good luck. Report back results.

My 2004 Chevolet Cavalier was running and started yesterday, but the next day would not start. It would turn over, but not start or run. Just run my battery down, started over, over

Spray a bit of carb cleaner in the air boot, off air filter housing to check if fuel pump went dead. Would be a good idea to check all fuses.

Hi i bought a vw beetle was running fine the last few days. I went to drive it yesterday and it wont start the immobiliser is showing its not flashing tho. My step dad replaced the car keys battery the day...

My immobiliser keeps flashing until I put the key in the ignition and then it stops. Normally changing key batteries has a period that if the battery is changed inside that time (say 5 minutes) then the key program will not loose memory Run fault codes to see if there is a problem in the electronics. Otherwise you may have to take the car to the dealer to have the key reprogrammed to the cpu in the car

it`s possible that it could be a bad fuel pump if you have someone remove the gas cap and another person try to start the car you should hear a pump run,if not if they slide under the car and listen at the bottom of the fuel tank again you should hear a pump run.if not try hitting the tank hard while someone tries to start the car.if it starts then that is your problem.this is about the only to check the pump without a fuel pump gauge.if you find the pressure release valve and push on it you should get a very strong spray out past the valve while cranking.where the valve is depends on the type of engine is in the car but it is somewhere on the fuel rail at the intake manifold.and before you say it was fine yesterday that is the way pumps go bad i`ve had them work fine all day then stop and go into a store and come out and it won`t start

Kia is kind of touchy when it comes to this warning light, did you put gas in it while it was running? That will cause it to come on and also a bad gas cap can too.But you will have to have a scanner to clear the code.
