Question about 2000 Buick LeSabre
When od is selected and trans should be shifting into od there is a whining sound coming from the trans and it stays in third gear. when the throttle is released,as to force a shift, the driveline disengages as if shifting into neutral. it immediately re-engages with throttle pressure. if gear selector is kept in third position everything operates normally, minus overdrive. lock-up converter also appears to be functioning properly. changed fluid and filter, no abnormal debris,metallic material,burnt fluid or other strange indications found in trans pan.
I believe that the solenoid that controls the overdrive is accessable from the transmission pan area. The solenoids that control the shifting are located in the side. The 4t65e transaxle has been known to have problems with overdrive for more than one reason though, so start with that solenoid. If that doesn't work, you may have luck with a shift kit. My car used to shift rapidly in and out of overdrive, after I installed a shift kit, I have had no further issues. I used the '4t65e sk' kit from TransGO.

Just guessing. Could it be a warped brake disk? That would cause vibration. And vibration in steering might conceivably cause splashing out the power steering reservoir. You would know if the disk were warped by a shudder when you brake at hight speeds.

Try unplugging the electrical connection on the transmission to lock it in 3rd. It might get you moving. Although the transmission is going to need rebuilt or replaced.

You may want to pull codes to see what code comes out of computer, sounds like you may have a temp. sensor inside trans. causing this but you will need to get codes.
