1996 Jeep GC - Diagnostic tool identified cylinder misfire

Car is running extremely rough when not in motion (check engine light is active). Diagnostic tool @ Autozone said I had a "random cylinder misfires detected" error and a specific cylinder misfire error (cylinder 6). Most probable cause is spark plugs. I had a full tune-up last April (2008) and my assumption (see what that gets me) is that they changed the spark plugs. If yes, I doubt that they would go bad after a year. Does this model year require a specific spark plug type (can't find it in the owner's manual)? Any other helpful tips would be greatly beneficial! Thanks.

2006 ford five hundred - engine code P0301. When first starts, no issues, but then idle gets rough and car loses power. Miles from home with no tools but willing to do whatever.

P0301 cylinder # 1 misfire !
P030x - Cylinder x Misfire Detected Description: NOTE: x represents cylinder number 1 through 9.
The misfire detection monitor is designed to monitor engine misfire and identify the specific cylinder in which the misfire has occurred. Misfire is defined as lack of combustion in a cylinder due to absence of spark, poor fuel metering, poor compression, or any other cause. Possible Causes:
  • Ignition system
  • Fuel injectors
  • Running out of fuel
  • EVAP canister purge valve
  • Fuel pressure
  • Evaporative emission system
  • EGR system
  • Base engine
Diagnostic Aids: The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) blinks once per second when a misfire severe enough to cause catalyst damage is detected. If the MIL is on steady state due to a misfire, this indicates the threshold for emissions was exceeded and caused the vehicle to fail an inspection and maintenance tailpipe test. Can a bad intake gasket cause my car not to run or run rough

Yes. If it is leaking, the engine is not getting enough air intake. It's the same as disconnecting the PCV valve.

Have misfire, code P0316, any ideals? 86,000 miles on

2004 Marauder and 2003-2004 Mustang vehicles built before 12/19/2004 equipped with 4.6L 4V/5.4 4V engine may exhibit a runs rough, lacks power, and engine misfire, prompted by a MIL light and DTC codes P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308, and P0316.
Diagnose engine for engine misfire concern. If diagnostics determine an engine misfire which is characterized by leakage through exhaust valve(s), only replace the affected cylinder head(s).
1. Perform relative compression check on all cylinders. If abnormal, check cylinder leakage and actual compression for "low" cylinders refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00.
2. If leakage/compression check indicates a valve train concern, per valve train diagnostics in WSM, Section 303-00, replace cylinder head and cam assembly, pipe plugs and timing chain tensioner, per procedure outlined in WSM, Section 303-01.
3. If cylinder leakage and compression tests are inconclusive, perform misfire diagnostic, per TSB 05-22-8.

My check engine light is flashing, the car runs rough until I get up to about 30mph and it is running through gas like crazy

Sounds like you have cylinder misfire. Any of the large auto parts stores can run an OBDII check and tell you which cylinder is misfiring (not firing). The engine is running with one cylinder out causing the rough idle. The faster the car goes the less perceptible the misfire is. That is why at 30mph the car seems to run smooth.

Rough idle, check engine light FLASHES,smell of engine coolant, yet no leak is visible

Go to an Autozone or Oreillys for a free engine scan. This will help you find the problem.

You could have an intake gasket or head gasket leaking into a cylinder. The scanner will show if a cylinder is misfiring and which cylinder it is. You can also get a loaner tool such as a Radiator pressure tester which can pressurize the system without the engine running. In some cases, antifreeze can evaporate or run off while the car is in motion.

Once you repair the part use some household detergent and hot water and clean the area you repaired. The smell from antifreeze will linger for months if you do not remove it. Also after you repair the problem, use the pressure tester again to insure the repair is holding.

Check engine light is blinking and car does not want to accelerate and is also shaking.

When the light is blinking it means the car is actively misfiring (which is why it's shaking and running rough). When this happens, pull over immediately and shut the car off. Running with a misfire can damage the engine.

You'll need to have the computer scanned for codes - they'll tell you which cylinder(s) are misfiring. Then you can investigate. Check the spark plugs for proper gap and to make sure that the car is igniting each cylinder correctly. If you have more than one cylinder misfiring, it increases the likelihood that the coil is bad. If you're unsure of doing this work, have the car towed to a shop that you trust and have them figure out the problem.
