Question about 1985 GMC C1500

1 Answer

My 1985 gmc 6.2L diesel died while I was driving. Now, when I turn the key over it won't do anything. None of the lights on the dash, and even the glow plug light is not coming on. Is this an electrical problem somewhere?

Park lights come on in a2008 gmc 2500 hd diesel when left parked not running factory remote start just died also any suggestions

lights stay on for short time after turning off vehicle or when you hit lock or unlock on fob as to auto start either fob battery died --fob malfunction--or you have a check engine code --have vehicle scanned because a pending trouble code may not light up on dash but will disable remote start --if it is a fob problem and you lost programming need to go to a dealer to flash the remote start

There should be 2 rubber blocks in the wire harness down by the starter. These are fusible links and one kills power to the truck, the other kills power to the engine. Cut them out and splice the wires back together, one at a time of course. Old age will do them in on occasion, moisture gets in there. Use some "heat shrink tube" to cover the splice. It works much better than tape. Hope this helps.

1985 ford f350 diesel will not allow the ignition to engage. Dash light says water in fuel. I put on a new fuel filter. Did not help. Can I bypass the sensor?

The Diesel engine doesn't have an ignition system. Also the dash light shouldn't cause it not to start? You said you changed the fuel filter right? After you started cranking it again did the lift pump fill the new filter up. I have had these before where the lift pumps go bad causing low lift pump pressure which causes the water in fuel light to be on. Did it die going down the road or did you shut it off and can't get it restarted.

Sounds like you may have problems with the ignition switch. The starter is turning over? But the motor doesn't fire, until you turn the key off?
