I have a 97 cadillac deville. The transmission was slipping an went totally out. It wouldn't go into drive or reverse. I had a used one put in an it still won't go into drive or reverse. By chance would anyone know what the problem is an how i can fix it?

The shop I had put it in is baffled.

The shifter....is that the whole column or would it be a component inside?

I will tell them to check the wiring an connections.

    Thank you very much

i recently had my oil changed on my 1997 cadillac deville, since then the vehicle has been running crazy. I place vehicle in gear, and it will run ok. then next minute it loses power. I want to know where to check the transmission oil.

Sounds like this is an electronically controlled transmission, and the signal isn't getting from the shifter to the tranny. Check ALL the wires and make sure they are hooked up correctly.

My 97 Cadillac deville concourse transmission is slipping. My fluid was very low and now its slipping. Did I put too much fluid?

take the oil pan off and inspect for any metal particles then change filter and recommended trans oil as is said on your dipstick.you need 10.4 liters of trans fluid. Also contamination in the valve body could cause this and any sensors in it.If your car has over 200000 KM than get it rebuild.

Cost to replace transmission 1996 cadillac deville

Hi there

The repair or replacement cost for this particular section of your vehicle will cost around $1,800 to $3,000; Depending on the actual type of transmission mounted. If rear wheel drive equipped; this will have a fairly decent labor charge attached to the actual part price. Typical Cadillac transmission replacement charges will run around $1,900 dollars. I would recommend to inquire about repairing the actual damaged sector of the transmission/transaxle, if possible. If catastrophic damage has occurred, total replacement may be needed.

My 92 Caddy Deville has reverse lights that stay on while I'm driving, how do I get them to turn off?

Hello: The back up lights get 12volts through the neutral safety switch. This is mounted on the top of the transmission on the drivers side. The switch could be out of adjustment and or failed or the wiring could be bad. To check te wiring disconnect both connectors on the switch, turn key on engine off apply park brake put transmission in drive and check to see if the reverse lights are on.

Transmission slips off the line

well it could just be the transmission modulator it might be faulty or the modulator might be leaking fluid into the vacuum system, or the transmission filter (A/T) might be clogged or dirty
