Question about 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country

Jeep Cherokee Country - Front parking lights are out

My daughters 1996 Jeep Country front parking lights are out.
Rear parking lights are on.
All turn signals and head lamps work.
Any ideas on the problem and how to rack down the issue?

The socket is the same for all 4 of the front running lights.

Left and right side markers and 2 under the headlamps.

I have not checked out if there are two fuses.

There may be, but wouldn't the rear and front running/parking lights all go out if it a fuse.

I was wondering where the front and rear harnesses would meet.

  • jclemns Mar 05, 2009

Yes the turn signals and running lights are the same bulb and sockets.

    Hey thanks for the help.

If you have ideas on the lights let me know.

I need somewhere to start my search.

Thanks for the idea. I did take out the bulbs and check sockets.

The thing is, it's all of the front marker lights and the same bulbs are the turn signals and they work. It's got to be a wire coming from a main power source that supplies all 4 of the lights in front.

front turn signals work, headlamps work, but the parking lights do not turn on

Motor guy is right ...it could be the obvious...both elements burned out (while everyone scrambles for exotic solutions). Does this car have a lighting module (I'm beginning to develop really bad thoughts about these things) Once there was a working, normal system now....

Check bulb sockets for power and ground.

Not necessarily... Get your owner's guide and have a look.

Sorry, I must have explained wrong. Is the same bulb & Location used for signals, also the parking lights (front)

I guess it would have been easier if I just mentioned the possibility of an element being burnt out, on a dual element bulb, and yes, it could happen on both.

At the socket, (one of the markers that aren't working) take a test light & probe Dark blue/w redstripe wire for power, with headlight switch on.. Make sure you have good fuses in following locations in fuse panel. # 15 should be a 15 amp., #4 should be 20 amp. #8 should be 20 amp. If not same, let us know. You did check all fuses in power distribution box under hood near battery too right?

1996 no tail lights

not much to go on here, but check the fuse. and the bulbs. does your dash lights illuminate or is it just the rear lights that are out? If none of the parking lights come on (front, rear,+dash) I would look at the headlight switch.

It sounds like a bad connector (corroded, damaged) near the taillights. Take all of them loose and inspect. Clean dirty ones, replace unrepairable damaged connectors.

Dash and shifter lights in 1996 jeep cherokee wont light

Hello and welcome to FixYa . Locate the dial that controls the brightness of the dashboardlights. If the control is not immediately evident. Make sure the brightness control is turned on. If it is and the lights aren't working, the problem may be a bad fuse. Check the fuse that controls the dashboard lights Replace the fuse if necessary. If just one part of the instrument panel is not lighting up, then you have either a burned-out bulb or a wiring problem.
