97 Aurora We already had the new key cut at Jimmy's Lock today and we had both keys at the time. They also checked the resister for the key and set it to the resister level which was at a 11.

  • tmack1968 Mar 05, 2009

    97 Olds Aurora

Yes we have the original key and took it when the new key was cut they also set the resister sensor in the key to 11 like the original key.

  • tmack1968 Mar 05, 2009

We were just trying to get it started. We changed the fuel module, put all new plugs in and then the lock cylinder. We did get fire when we changed the fuel module. And we changed all the plugs because they were wet and it still wouldn't start so that when he moved a wire on the lock cylinder it tried to start so we noticed a wire was burnt so we put in a new lock cylinder.

  • tmack1968 Mar 05, 2009

yes security light is flashing-haven't tried to start the car since lock cylinder was changed

  • tmack1968 Mar 05, 2009

No we don't have a ohm meter.

  • tmack1968 Mar 05, 2009

it was one of the white wires that was burnt. should we go ahead and try to start the car. We just don't want to try starting it if it will mess up something.

  • tmack1968 Mar 05, 2009

Should we try to start it now. It has been sitting for a couple of hours now. And then try putting the old lock cylinder back on and try it again.

  • tmack1968 Mar 05, 2009

Ok Thanks for all the help

I need to know if you have passkey or passlock? Does it has a resistor pellet in the key? Then I can tell you how to set it.

That means it is passkey. There are 15 different resistance values that could be used to run your car. Do you have the original key that started your car with the old lock cylinder. If so take that key to a lock and key shop and the new key, the locksmith can measure the resistance of your old key, get the right key blank, then cut that key the same as the one that fits your new lock. Then you should be good to go. If you don't have the original key, it is alot harder. Let me know. I can tell you how to fix that too.

Is this the original problem you were trying to cure when you changed the lock cylinder? ie Security light flashing, car not starting.

What wire was burnt? One of the two white wires that are wrapped with the orange sleeve? You shouldn't have to do any reprogramming if you have the right key. But it will lock you out for 3 minutes if you try the wrong key. Do you have an ohm meter? If so I can tell you how to do some tests on this system.

Was that the wire that was burnt?

It won't mess up anything, but it likely won't even crank over. I would try unplugging the new lock cylinder wires. Then plug in the old one.(just leave it hanging with the old key in it) . Then turn on the ignition and see if the security light goes out.

Is a 99 buick park avenue fuel pump compitable with a 1997 oldsmobile aurora? there both a gm product

According to my parts guide, the fuel pump for your 97 Olds Aurora fits only that and the 97 Buick Riviera's and nothing else. The pump for a 99 Park avenue comes up as a different part number. Hope this helps!

My 97 oldsmoble starts then dies then the security light comes on and car wont start after about3 hours or so it starts up

What you are experiencing is a "short term theft" issue. The vehicles theft system can not detect the ignition tumbler code, but knows you have the correct key because you can start the vehicle.
The key tumbler may have gone bad or the wiring to the tumbler may have a problem. In either case, you should take the vehicle to your local GM dealer and ask them to check the theft system for you. If the tumbler needs replacement, the technician will have to perform a "code learn" for the new tumbler in order for the car to run properly.
Good luck.

My 97 Olds aurora cuts off while driving. It's done it 3 times in 1 week. It doesn't stall when i start it back it up. I changed my alternator recently and i bought a new battery. Any ideas?

It could be the Ignition Switch. If, when it cuts off, you notice your gages, etc go off, then you are losing ignition power. If not, then maybe I would look at the crankshaft position sensor, etc. This should through some sort of code though.

Oldsmobile 2001 intrigue Ignition main the key will not turn

Possible fix for the year of car is a worn key or tumbler or both. Check with Olds with your car vin number to cut a new key. If it's the tumbler, it will have to be re-pinned with new pins by locksmith or replaced with new tumbler. Rare occasions the turning of steering wheel frees the steering locks pressure hold on ignition tumbler. New tumbler can be reset to match door so as not to have two different keys.
