Basic thing was I did not know how to access the tensioner. On a 2003 Ford Escape XLT 3.0L 6cyl, access is from the bottom of the car. Remove the under carriage motor shield on the passenger side. The tensioner is right there and then the belt can be removed and replaced as needed.

Either a half or 5/8 ratchet fits in the tensioner you will see a square hole on the outside of the tensioner you pull it back and it releases the tension

I need to know all the kinds of belts that are in a 2003 ford escape and where they are located

Depends on the engine that is in that car but there are usually at least 2. One is very long and it called the serpentine belt. The other usually runs power steering or air conditioning.

I just went to my local Ford Dealership and asked them to replace my timing belt on my 2003 Ford Escape, V6. My receipt says I got a new serpentine belt. Is this related to the timing belt?

well, this part comes off to do the timing belt so if it was bad they should replace it but!!!!! not without your permisson first, just because its coming off doesnt mean they can replace it because its bad, they quote you a price they should stick to it, any extra cost would be nice to get your approval before installing more parts, hope this helps.

I don't find any reference to changing a timing belt or chain on my 3.0L 2005 Escape XLT. Please clarify need to change belt or chain (which?).

twin chains. no need to change. timing belts are the ones that need to be changed sometimes as often as 40,000miles/60,000km!
