Question about 1997 Chevrolet Blazer
My Blazer has been through a tough time...
It had been sitting in the same spot for a year and a half. The battery that is currently in it is about 1 year and a half old. I finally got the truck fixed about 2 weeks ago. Everything was fine. The Alternator was charging the battery and the battery seemed alright. I made a three hour trip in it and then drove it the next few days....gradually the battery got weaker and weaker...it would start but it took a lot out of its power. It was dead the other day and I got a jump and it started. Then I drove it, the alternator is working because the voltage was reading around 14-15 volts and the battery light was not on. The next day, I went out to start it and it was dead....So I took the battery to Autozone to get it charged and tested....they said it is a good battery and it was around 11 volts, i guess (I'm not too good with cars). So here is my problem....
Battery is good (apparently) - 1 1/2 years old Alternator is good - two weeks old
Battery takes a charge and can start truck....battery light does not come on during truck being on.
When I turn the key backwards to turn on radio and other electric devices....the battery light comes on and stays on as if there is a problem with this apparently good battery.
Also, a long time ago, the dome light wouldn't ever go out....so I took the bulb out. Could this be what is draining the battery? The cigarette ashtray light doesn't ever go out either
Is there a short circuit somewhere? Do I just need to go get a new battery and hope for the best? I gotta get this thing running so I can get to work! Please help!!
