Question about 1996 Pontiac Sunfire

Check engine light on

The car is over heat so I change water pum , head kasket , ignation coil and maduled , new spark PLug all work done but engine light stay on and off I don't know what i should do next thanks.

You're changing/swapping a lot of parts, but are you getting spark on #8 - at the plug? Is the injector actually getting a firing signal (use a noid light to check)? Can you actually hear the engine missing/skipping, or are you basing this all on the CEL and (presumably) P0308 code?
If the compression is good (as good as the other cylinders), and you are getting spark at the plug, and the injector is getting a good signal, I don't understand the dealer diagnosing a bad head or shot engine. These would indicate a mechanical problem and compression would be the indicator.

Have a Ford Escape 2005... Coil packs C and D were bad ...now check engine light on and seems like it is trying to backfire through my intake????


Hello, Were the coils changed? Perhaps the wrong wire was put on the wrong plug. You need to somehow scan the engine to find the defect and to clear the computer. It sounds like the engine is trying to fire when the piston is in the wrong place.

If you did not have any work done yet, then the spark from the bad coil is going somewhere else and firing a cylinder out of time. This can happen when the sparks jump. You can temporarily use cardboard as an insulator around a plug to keep the spark from jumping. The cardboard will burn from the heat, but in testing it will identify an open wire.

I have a 1998 Sunfire/ son warp the Head by not finding a leak that was the water pump. had head grounded down and reconnected. now i get a PO300 and it a misfire random. took the Ignition coil/ignition control madule to a shop and was test 3 times, first time it showed it failed , they did two more test on it and it passed. At night i turn off all the lights in Garage and sprayed a fine mist of water over the spark plugs and saw some flashing , not much very light on a couple of plug wires. Any one have an idea of what it may be . thanks for reading and i hope someone can give me a good idea thanks again

Where are the spark plugs located on the car


They are underneath the coils,there will be a coil,and under the coil will be a spark plug boot connecting the coil to the spark plug.

to check the coil just put a screw driver in the end of the wire and touch it to metal and have someone turn the car over if u see spark its good . to check the module use a volt meter

99 5.2 durango :pulled codes for multipe missfire cylinder #5-7


Aloha We have just replaced all of what you have replaced, plus water pump, fuel pump, pcv valve and 02 sensor. Took it to mechanic today we had misfire on 1,2,6,7. Mechanic said that the 99 dodge is known for bad computers, he checked ours and works great turns out that it was the coil. Ours was jumping 1/4 inch and had a orange/yellow spark. it is supposed to have a 1 inch spark and be blue. This has solved our problems after 527 dollars later.
Check the coil!

this maybe caused by no fuel or faulty fuel pump, ignition coil, wire and plug crank position sensor. first check for spark by removing on spark plug wire and put a spark plug in the spark plug wire boot, donot touch the plug only the boot have someone crank the car over. if you see spark, that part of the ignition is good. if not, check the coil resistance if should 40 to 80 ohm with a volt meter pf not replace. if ok, but no spark check the igniton control madule make sure the coil and module are receiving current. if not check the fuse that feels them. if it is ok, check distributor cap and rotor. if rotor and cap are fine, check for fuel at either the fuel filter, the fuel return line or removing some spark plug and see if they are wet. if there is no fuel check the fuel pump and the fuse and relay that control the pump. if there is fuel with high pressure but there is no spark, check the crank sensor for signal with a volt meter while cranking the vehicle
