What should the oil pressure read? Mine runs fine - no oil light on, but pressure reads slightly above 30 lbs/in when warm and on the highway.

It could be that during the changing of the gaskets that some debris may have ended up in the oil passages in the heads slowing the flow of the returning oil. Or could be the oil pressure unit itself.

How do I check and replace engine oil sensor.

Knowing how these gauges work , I'd say you have an instrument cluster problem not oil sender unit. 2003 - 2006 GM had bad stepper motors in the instrument cluster . If there was a problem with the oil sender the gauge would default to zero .
Engine Oil Pressure Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine oil pressure as determined by the powertrain control module (PCM). The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the engine oil pressure. The engine oil pressure gage defaults to 0 kPa (0 psi) or below if:
?€¢
The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine oil pressure sensor circuit.

?€¢
The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM.

If you don't know what class 2 serial data communications are ,google it. How to repair GM Instrument Cluster Speedometer Gauge Stepper

I have a 2003 ford ranger the oil pressure guage goes to hald way then 0 back to half way truck runs great with no problems

Check the plug first. Look at the tabs in the plugs. They should be touching from one side to the other. See a gap fix or replace the plug. If it looks good, Replace the oil sending unit.

Well it could be the sending unit for the gauge.
But odds are the oil pump or engine bearings are worn out.
As the engine warms up, the metal spaces expand and the oil gets thinner. The oil pressure drops some under normal conditions, but not more than 10 or 15psi. Normal idle pressure with the engine warmed up is probably 25psi.
You could check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to make sure its not the sending unit.
Once the oil pressure starts staying below 20psi for long periods you'll start hearing noises.

Engine oil pressure high & fluctuate @ 90 to 100 psi when it cold. Engine oil pressure fluctuate at 50 to 60 pis when it warm. What is the problem on this issue?

The oil would thin out and could show lower pressure when its warmed. The sender for the gauge could also be bad.

No oil pressure on idle

Did you check the oil level in the engine?
Since the oil pressure sensor is only a on/off switch set to change states at around 15 PSI, it's possible your sensor is going bad and giving false indication. Be aware that the oil pressure reading on the gauge is only a number made up by the computer, so depending on the state of the sensor switch, the gauge will display either 40 - 50 PSI or 0 PSI.

Replace the oil pressure sending unit its giveing a false reading . The problem is when the engine is cold the oil pressure is low and it takes a little time to build up whem cranking the engine and that sends a signal to the computer PCM /VCM what ever but your 40 to 60 lbs oil pressure is graet its ideal .The unit switches when the oil pressure is high enough to trip the switch inside the sending unit and that is sent to the vehicle control module

Where is the oil pressure sensor located on a 1996 murcury cougar

Look for the oil pressure sending unit on the block or the cylinder head on the V-6 or V-8 models. --- OIL PRESSURE TEST Check for proper oil pressure at the sending unit passage with an externally mounted mechanical oil pressure gauge (as opposed to relying on a factory installed dash-mounted gauge). A tachometer may also be needed, as some specifications may require running the engine at a specific rpm.
  1. With the engine cold, locate and remove the oil pressure sending unit.
  2. Following the manufacturer's instructions, connect a mechanical oil pressure gauge and, if necessary, a tachometer to the engine.
  3. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
  4. Check the oil pressure reading when cold and record the number. You may need to run the engine at a specified rpm, so check the specifications.
  5. Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached (upper radiator hose will feel warm).
  6. Check the oil pressure reading again with the engine hot and record the number. Turn the engine OFF.
  7. Compare your hot oil pressure reading to specification. If the reading is low, check the cold pressure reading against the chart. If the cold pressure is well above the specification, and the hot reading was lower than the specification, you may have the wrong viscosity oil in the engine. Change the oil, making sure to use the proper grade and quantity, then repeat the test. Low oil pressure readings could be attributed to internal component wear, pump related problems, a low oil level, or oil viscosity that is too low. High oil pressure readings could be caused by an overfilled crankcase, too high of an oil viscosity or a faulty pressure relief valve.

OIl pressure is 0 at idle, warm or cold. It comes up as soon as you rev the engine. 1998 4.0 L Ford Ranger.

The gauge must be lying to you or your engine would be knocking and seized up on you by now,Replace the oil sending unit and this should fix you up.

1995 honda passport i have installed 2 thermostats and bottom radiator hose will not get hot behind thermostat hoseing is real hot and top hose is hot what is the problem

is the temp gauge getting hot as you drive the vehicle or does it remain at a constant temp? if no problem in coolant temp getting too hot (and overheating), then it should not be an issue.

you're sure radiator is filled with 50/50 mix of coolant & water to the top of the cap? if there's an air bubble trapped it could cause a problem. some cars have to be "burped" after refilling with new antifreeze.

if, however, its overheating, then i believe your radiator may be clogged preventing the coolant to flow across the radiator fins and cool properly.

try this. warm the car up (not the point of overheating, but hot enough for the t-stat to open), turn it off, make sure the electric fan is off (or unplug it is so equipped), then run your hand across the radiator. it should feel warm. if you feel cold spots, then that portion of the radiator is clogged preventing flow. new radiator is now in order.

hopefully its only a clogged radiator and not a clogged engine block.

hope this helped.
