thanks in advance. any can help that would be great.
If you not good with a wrench don't try to remove it. I am not sure but you can try two different things one lock and unlock the driver side door about 3 time then put the key in the ignition and try to start it, someone else said to remove one of the battery cables wait about twenty min. or so and replace it and try. If you do have to have the guy fix make sure he takes it out and gives it to you.
Ok we are getting close. you have a bad neutral/safetyswitch if it is an automatic, If it a manual transmission I'm thinking that there is a safety switch on the clutch pedal oi can be out of adjustment or bad. Good job on removing it there are two wires you need to bypass it one is the starter and the other is the fuel pump, I am sure you got both just fyi
OK lets see if the ignition switch is working. If you have a test light (if not get one they are very cheap) check the wire you together after you removed the alarm box. One end of the test light to a good ground, the other end should be sharp so you can prob the wire. It should not be on, turn the key to on or run, the should still be off, now turn it as if you are go to start it the light should come on now. If not the ign switch is bad. Hopefully it worked now go to the transmission or the sift leaver, I am sure on your car, find the net/safty switch. There will be a wire or two one in one out, that is the some size and color a the one just tested. back prob them then turn the key like you starting it. if one lite then the nutuarl/setfy switch is bad. if both or good go under the hood and prob the wire that goes to the starter (not the end) and try it againif it comes on the the end is bad. If it is an automatic do not bypass the switch, if it is a manual it sould be ok.

yea i just removed it myself. and connected the starter wire in the alarm and still no start. now ithink its either my key chip (if the 97 jetta has one) or something in the automatic shifter. b/c the guy i bought it from saif when this happens turn the key to the on position and shift the shifter from park to 1 several times then try to start it. did that (many times and no start) but i can start it by jumping the starter.
i'm thinking it is the neutral/safty switch too. but i tried starting it in park, neutral, drive, 3,2,1 and still no start with key. only start if i jump the starter. would that eliminate the switch as being the culprate. i don't know. just don't want to spend a bucket load of money just for some guy at some shop to just do a plug and start thing with a 3 dollar part and charge me $300. then i"ll be pretty pissed. lol
I dont know if its the alarm system but the motor cranks but no spark wont fire please help if you can. Thanks!
there is no fuse, please contact me.
