Radio reset code for 1998 a4 audi

Looking to see if anyone knows how to reset the radio. The battery was disconnected and the radio says "safe".

Obviously no responses. Unfortunately, Audi (and I'm sure others) have a lock on the code and therefore I was forced into going to the dealer to get the code. Quite a $$$ maker! For the price of the car (if u purchased new), you'd think they'd give it to u for free!

A big thanks for trying to help me. I finally went to my local Audi dealer and had it coded. $61 bucks! Got the the code which is different than yours, but I appreciate your help. You'd think Audi would just give it to you (perhaps online). Nobody is interested in a radio out of a 98 vehicle. They (Audi) indicated that the fee is for labor since they've got to pull the radio, but still.....

I was told by the Audi dealership that each stereo has it's own code and to get it you have to pull the stereo. They also said that to reset from the SAFE code that you turn the ignition on(car not running) for one hour then the 1000 should appear, then put in "your" stereos code and press and hold the scan button.

I had the exact same problem on my 1998 Audi A4 Quattro Sedan I just purchased. I read a couple of other posts that said to try looking for the radio code in the spare tire compartment in the trunk. Sure enough on the right hand side of the compartment was a information label and on it someone had written the code 1174 in pen. I then left the key in the ignition and the radio on for an hour. Then I pushed the DX and FM1/2 button and the same time until the "1000" number appeared on the display. Then I pushed in the code 1174 using the 1 - 4 tuner buttons. For example the number 1 key I pushed until the number 1 appeared. Then pushed button number 2 until the number 1 appeared, pushed button 3 until the number 7 appeared and button 4 until number 4 appeared. After I had the code 1174 on the display, you again push the DX and FM1/2 button at the same time and the radio unlocked and worked perfectly. I hope that this helps. I have the Delta (Bose) AM/FM Cassette radio in my car. Good Luck!!

I have a 1998 audi a4 with the v6 2.8. my radio is on safe. what do i have to do to get the stereo to work. if i need a code, how do i get it...

IMPORTANT NOTE: You must have the security anti-theft code for your Audi radio from the car manufacturer, or from an Audi dealer!

The sequence of radio programming for 1998 Audi A4 V6 2.8 is:

1. Push simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.
3. By the #1 key you will set up the first safe code digit.
4. By the #2 key you will set up the second safe code digit.
5. By the #3 key you will set up the third safe code digit.
6. By the #4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit.
7. Then push again simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys for confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed. The radio is now ready for use!

I disconnected the battery and now the radio is in SAFE mode, how do I get the radio to operate again. The Audi is a 1998, A4 model.

Many radios have a paper-clip sized hole with a switch inside that you can press with a paperclip to take the unit of out safe mode. In some models the button is on the front, in others it is on the back and you need to pull the unit to access it.

My car radio is on safe mode

Happens when you replace your battery after disconnecting the battery cables. See your dealer or call Audi for the reset pass code. You will need the vehicle VIN# and possibly some #s off of the radio.

Call an Audi Dealer and give them the VIN of the vehicle. They should be able to give you the code to reset the radio. It's a anti-theft thing.

1998 AUDI QUATTRO BATTERY DIED. RADIO IS NOW IN SAFE MODE.

Unfortunately, if I am reading this problem properly, you have a Blaupunkt radio in your Audi. Disconnection from power source and reconnection without proper (un)locking code will result in the permanent disabling of said radio.

It's a common problem in factory Blaupunkt radios installed in Volvo's, BMW's Audi's, etc. A very effective anti-theft mechanism indeed!

SAFE CODE FOR AUDI A4 2001

There are 3 ways to solve this.
1) call Audi USA and provide them with info on your car and request the code number.
2) If you know someone that knows how to open up the stereo radio system. The code is labeled on the inside.
3) this is a last resort option, the option I had to go through. You can take it to a certified Audi dealership and have them go into the radio system and get the code. However I had to pay $145.00 for this service.
Just know that everytime you disconnect the battery in the engine this is gonna happen so be sure to save your code or provide it to to Audi USA for records.
