Temperature gauge is getting hot have changed thermostat

I have a bmw 328i 1996 it keeps saying check coolant level have done this and also changed the thermostat but it still gets hot very quickly plus the coolant seems to have air locks in it

    I'VE ALREADY replaced my water pump with a $200, replaced the Pully, thermostat, belts, thermostat housing. And My BMW still overheats, what else can I do besides replacing the Radiator.

Hello.

The air release valve is a black plastic screw by the coolant refill cap, if you unscrew this slightly after you've driven the car, it will release any air if it has any (be careful of the steam). If this solves your problem you're very lucky. I think it's most likely your water pump needs reeplacing. I would suggest getting this solved asap as there is a very real danger you can get your engine head damaged if the temp keeps going beyond the normal.

There are a few things with the bmw and i am having the same problem till 2day.... i had a 318 year 97 and i brought it with a over heating problem.... on the head under the air intake there is another heat sensour that i can garentea has gone.... its the same problem i had... its not easy 2 get 2 as you have 2 strip your engine down a little but i think this is your problem.....

If any has any idea why mine temo is now reading 90 befor i even start the engine i would be thankful for the advise... i have changed everythink i can and i know there is no other problems with the car.... the only thing is when i put the key in and turn she goes up 2 90C befor the engine is even started... once she is warm she runs fine but the temp tells me that its hot yet i know she isint.... have i blowen a fuse i dont know about?? please help

I replaced my radiator on my 2004 with a 2.2 and it seems like the thermostat is not opening. It can not get the air out. It seem to just to over heat and push the coolant out. Randy

WELL YOU NEED TO DRAIN COOLANT LEVEL BELOW THERMOSTAT LEVEL.YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT MAF SENSOR LOOSEN AIRDUCT 2 LARGE CLAMPS LOOSEN REMOVE 4 SCREWS TO AIR FILTER COVER LIFT UP REMOVE COVER. THEN REMOVE AIR FILTER AND HOUSING, FIRST DISCONNECT MAF SENSOR.YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT THROTTLE CABLE AND SHIFT CABLE.YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT REMOVE THROTTLE BODY COOLANT HOSES DISCONNECT IDLE SPEED CONTROL VALVE CONNECTOR AND DISCONNECT TPS SENSOR CONNECTOR. THEN REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. Assuming everything is working properly,where should the needle on my temp gauge be under normal driving conditions?1996 bmw 328i


I would say no more than 210 F, Say you have a thermostat listed at 185, or 195, they open up at that temp, the engine under normal driving will run between 195 and 210, you really don't want to see 250. even though coolant boils at 265+, in a pressurized unit, and some cars are supposed to run that hot, I don't like the idea. Hope this helps.

BMW 325ci - Car cuts off on very hot days - Error code P00128


Check the following :

BMW Code PO128
This means that the engine's PCM detected that the engine has not reached the required temperature level within a specified amount of time after starting the engine. The intent of the P0128 code is to indicate a faulty thermostat. Similar codes: P0125
In determining the engine did not reach a "normal" temperature, it takes into account the length of time the vehicle has been running, the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor reading, the engine coolant

temperature (ECT) sensor reading, and the speed of the vehicle.

You will likely not notice any drivability problems other than the MIL illumination.
A code P0128 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • Low engine coolant level
  • Leaking or stuck open thermostat
  • Faulty cooling fan (running too much)
  • Faulty coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
  • Faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensor
solutions
Past experience indicates that the most likely solution is to replace the thermostat. Verify coolant strength & level
  • Verify proper cooling fan operation (check if it's running more than it should). Replace if necessary.
  • Verify proper engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor operation, replace if necessary.
  • Verify proper intake air temperature (IAT) sensor operation, replace if necessary.
  • If the above items check out good, replace the thermostat

The engine seems to overheat and the internal heater blows cold


The problem is your coolant level has gone too low check and top up when engine is cold, you will see the marks on the expansion bottle, if prob persists there may be an airlock in the heater radiator. keep an eye on coolant level or you will have cylinder head problems.

1995 BMW not obtaining enough heat Any ideas


hows your temp gauge ?? in the middle ??
if so you have a restriction in your system or air.
bmw's are very famous for getting bubbles on the system and can overheat your vehicle so check your coolant level " on an incline "
re-fill if needed. turn it on with the radiator cap of. let it run for about an hour with your heater at the highest, keep track of your temp gauge and your coolant. refill to specs " marks " without putting the cap on. let it cool of for another hour, check coolant level again, if you had air it will be low, refill again and you should get hot air like crazy
