2004 Lincoln Aviator thumping sound

Behind left rear wheel there is a continual thumping sound that seems associated with the airconditioning system. This is all wheel drive and was their top of the line Aviator, if that adds any info or equipment. Everything seems to work ok except for the noise. It appears that turning the a/c up increases the volume but not the frequency of the thumping. This noise is whether stopped or moving.

The problem is the rear thermostatic expansion valve (TXV).
It is behind the left rear quarter trim panel. You can pull the panel back to access the valve to make sure that that is the noise. If so you will nedd to have AC system evacuated and replace valve and recharge the system. The part number is YF2Z-19849-AA.

The problem is more than likely the blend door motor. Seems to be a common problem with these models.

You could possibly have wheel bearing problems
that is very serious. If you can't check yourself
hire somebody. It means your wheel or wheels could
come off going down the interstate. Jack up one
side to clear the ground. Wiggle the wheel and tire
if it's tight ok, if it's loose very important to fix it
quick.
i think the AWD on the 04 is full time. The 05 can be cut off.
hope it's not too bad.

It is located under the truck at the center of the front crossmember behind a shield. Two bolts hold the shield and there are two quick release hoses on the fuel filter itsself. Good luck!!!
