It's your speed sensor at the transfercase on the drivers side i believe. Check the wire and clip to the sensor for any break or loose contacts.
Easy fix and is about a 30 min job to do with simple tools. Un-clip the wire conntection, remove the retainer bolt and slide and sensor out. To install just do everything in reverse and add transmisson oil if needed.
Most of the time, it's going to be the sensor. Keep in mind that there are two sensor's so make sure it's the one on the output shaft at the transfercase. The other one is closer to the front of the transmission on the same side with is the input Volosity speed sensor.
If it was your ABS sensor, you ABS light would come on in your dash.
Good luck and hope this helps

The teeth on the ODO gear are most likely stripped. Seen this a hundred times. Dealer- only repair unless you buy a used speedo head.

Sounds like either your speedometer cable, your nylon gear on the side of the tranny where the cable ties in, or the odometer itself is shot. One of those three will set you straight. If you are able, remove the cluster, take the cable off the back, and pull it out of the sheath. You will see if its broken or not from there. If not, slide it back into the sheath, then you have to find out where the sheath meets the tranny, and pull it off of there. Then, you can get someone else to watch the speedo as you turn the cable from the bottom. If it works, great, if not, then its your cluster/odometer/speedo. If it does work, the small gear in the transmission is shot.

Take the VSS unit out as described. Need two people. Have the unit out of transmission but hook up the electrical wire. Turn the ignition ON but do not start the engine. Turn the gear while someone watches the speedometer. If you get a response then just replace the gear and try it. The gear may not look worn or broken but just a little wear and it looses contact with the transmission worm gear. This may cost you about $6 instead of over $60.
