Question about 1997 Dodge Stratus

1 Answer

97 Dodge Stratus...no ES model...4 dr, 2.4L, Auto Tranny,...here's the scoop...won't start...no codes, no fire...NONE! Replaced the battery, ASD relay, alternator, cam/crank/MAP sensors, coil pack is a year old.....fixed a broken wire to the alternator, not sure what's left except the ECM/PCM!!!! Any help? I am looking at between $250-$651 just for the part.

Nope....didn't check....read the possibilities are that maybe the timing belt is gone...don't have time right off the bat to check....other thing is is to do a light check with the crank sensor disconnected and simple turning the key off then....wait for a flash or no flash and then go from there.

Okay.....after ten months of troubleshooting and half of that was not done due to poor weather, I finally broke down and took my Stratus in (towed). $89 for diagnostics....1.5 hours for labor on repairing burned wires that were against the firewall side of the motor....fixed and placed conduit around the wires.....my car runs fine now.....wasted all that money on sensors....codes were correct, but it was because the wires going TO the sensors were toast.

Okay....after a bunch of parts being replaced....it turned out to be the ECM....replaced it and problem solved.

Are any trouble codes stored? Is there power to the ASD relay? You likely have a blown fusible link or corroded terminal under the fuse box.

Reminds me of when a friend of mine had a car with carbon tracks on the distributor cap. I wiped it clean and it worked perfectly. Are the plug cables going to the correct cylinders in the correct order? A hanes service manual actually put the wrong order down in a mustang manual.
