Question about 1996 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

1996 Ford Explorer vibrates when idling. Also have noticed that when I go 80 mph, it "jumps" every few seconds. Like it skips a beat. I don't know how to explain it but it seams to "stall" like if you were accelerating and suddenly stop accelerating for a sec and the whole cabin shakes. Feels like the transmition skips.

What should the rmp be on a 1996 Ford explorer 4.0 2 wd?

without more information I would be willing to say at an idle around 600-750 maximum driving at around 70 mph should not exceed 2800 now keep in mind that's a cruising speed not accelerating. But I would not go over 4000 accelerating

Why would my 2002 ford explorer 4x4 will jump or jerk if i have to go slow or take off too fast ?

A common issue is the PCV valve elbow. It cracks and creates a vacuum leak. Vacuum leaks are more noticeable at low rims, which could explain why you have the symptoms you do. Did this happen suddenly, or was there smaller hints like hard starting or a fast idle that normally isn't there?

My ford explorer 1996 gauge would drop below 500rpm when i step on the break to stop and engine vibrate, rpm will return back to 800 once I shift to neutral. Please advise what's wrong.

If you have a vacuum assisted brake then check the brake booster for failure allowing air into the mixture and running the engine lean. Simple test allow the engine to idle in neutral. If ok then place your foot on the brake and if it changes then it is the booster . Replace with serviceable unit.

I have a 1996 S10 2.2 litre, and I am experiencing a noticable vibration in between 20-25 mph and around 40 mph, I already changed the u joints, i'm not sure if its my rotors, or what. I do have a bad O2...

The O2 sensor answers the idle problem. The vibration could be motor mounts, bushings in the sway bar or even tie rod ends or a bad strut. If the vibration is only there when moving it's not the motor mounts but the rest are still suspect.

Car vibrates above 40 MPH

your wheels more than likely needs to be balanced one or more are out of round if you had the tires rotated before the alignment this would make the vibrating more noticible.but balancing should solve your problem.

Replace balancer. You don't notice them until you rev it up.
