Question about 1991 Toyota 4Runner

1 Answer

My 1991 Toyota 4Runner wont hold a charge. The alternator has been replaced. The truck will start, no problem. Once it gets driven, the battery gage takes a nose dive!

My 1991 4Runner's battery won't hold a charge overnight. It needs to be jump started. The battery is fairly new and was checked ok.

Could the problem be the alternator? Can I check it easily enough myself?

    Thanks,

    BB

Knocking noise in the air intake or do you mean a lifter noise, because you let it sit the lifter are not charged up or solidified,so you dont get adequate compression when you turn it over.if you have fuel and spark thats fine what about compression, noise from the air intake make me wonder if the timing belt is intacted.

Car wont start no lights and batterie is dead . jump it and it starts right up

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. You need to make sure the battery is holding a proper charge. Clean the terminals and clean the post. You could have a weak alternator draining your battery. You can test it by starting the car and unplugging the hot side battery terminal once the battery is charged. If it dies instantly, your alternator is bad. You may need a new battery.

1999 Toyota 4runner starting problem

Turn on the headlights to check the battery and it's connections. If the lights fade out, the battery has likely lost charge, either because of a bad battery, or the alternator has failed. Charge the battery with an external charger overnight if the charger has a low charge rating, then start the engine and measure the battery voltage. The voltage should read 13.5 to 14.5 volts DC if the alternator is working, but 12.6 volts or less if it is not working. The battery should run the truck for a while until you can get the alternator and battery checked. Don't run any accessories until the system is repaired as needed.

Start up issues

Take your starter off and have it checked out. Sounds like it's taking too much power, and possibly killing your battery. A bad starter will drain your battery when the vehicle isn't running.

Power problems

1. Change your fuel pump.

2. Have a look at the starter. That is definately the problem.

Cheers.

It sounds like either the alternator is bad, or you need to replace the battery...you can have both checked at Autozone for free..............
