The reason there is a P0440 = lare leak evap sytem. this can be caused be several things like a vent valve. which need to be close to check for leaks and if that stuck open this will set a p0440. or there is another problem. but i would start with a vent valve. there is a way to test it but you need a scan tool to do this. this is a common problem. 2734 GM Tech.

97 pontiac sunfire 2.2L engine has trouble starting when engine is cool I have to give it a little gas to start it but when engine is hot starts just fine. Had fuel injector cleaned and a induction replace...

po141 code is downstream oxygen sensor heater or circuit fault. that should not keep it from starting cold...but cars are funny like that!!
i would get that fixed and go from there

Code P0440 on 2001 Sunfire

I would say start by replacing the gas cap with a genuine GM product. If that doesn't fix it there are a few more suggestions here --> P0440 @ OBD-Codes.com

I have a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire and I had a cjeck engine light come on. I diagnosed it with my OBD 11 and it came up with a 440 code. The gas cap is on tight, where do I go from here Thanks Keith

Take the gas cap off and put it back on then clear the code. This happens some times when the gas cap is put on wrong or not put on at all.

I have a 2002 pontiac sunfire and i keep getting a code for the check engine light(p1441)I have a code scanner but it wont tell me what this code means. it say its a manufactures code

code OBD II P0441 states incorrect purge flow.. Check all your vacuum lines at the purge canister and tank too, and check your gas cap to make sure it is on tight. When all else fails, have a local autoparts store scan it with their scanner for free to see what they suggest.

First listen for the fuel pump. when you turn the ignition to "on" , just before start, you should hear the fuel pump whining. What you need to do is remove the fuel line going into your fuel rail. Get a small container and turn the pump on and off a few times to get some of that bad gas out. Reconnect fuel line and see if that works. If that doesnt work, Next would be to change the fuel filter which is just behind the rear axle. Other than that you could drain all of the fuel by disconnecting the fuel line to the filter and let it all drain. I dont see a lot of water getting into your port just by leaving the cap off. You might have bought bad gas.

2002 pontiac sunfire has check engine light

Your problem is typical for these cars. The throttle position sensor is bad. Go to Auto Zone and have them check the codes to confirm this. i've seen this many times, that's usually the problem. It makes the car feel like the brakes are on. Hope this helps. Let me know. Phil
