Question about 1995 Mazda Millenia

1 Answer

Engine skipping/misfiring, engine light flashing

A few days ago my car started to skip/misfire when restarted after driving a while. I restarted the car again and it was gone, only to come back the following day. It was inteminent for a few days until last night when the check engine light came on and started flashing. Restarted the light still flashes. It feels like there is a lack of power, like it running on 5 not 6 cylinders. I checked the plugs for fouling but they appear to be fine. The wires also look fine as well. The distributer, cap and rotor were replaced 5k miles ago.

Drive it into a dark place, or wait till dark. When it's running poorly, see if you can see any spark flying around. It sounds like plug wires.

Cadillac skip

If the check engine light is on, you may want to check for a engine misfire code which cause the engine to "skip".

There are plenty of things that cause an engine to misfire. You need to help us narrow it down by giving us more detailed history of what exactly you did and what type of car it is.

Mustang 2003 check engine light on. Had diagnostic run at AutoZone and they gave me the following codes: p0316 and p0301. car skips like it wants to cut off. Can I still drive until I get it looked at with...

If the light is flashing - NO. It means you are dumping raw fuel intot eh catalytic converter (very expensive).

If steady, drive sparingly.

01 is cylinder #1 misfiring. Could be spark plug or coil.

16 is misfire detected during start up.

Try cleaning the MAF sensor. It is delicate. It has a filament like a light bulb that detects the incoming air flow through the air intake. If the MAF gets a micro piece of dirt, pollen or any type of debris on the tiny filament, it can cause fault codes, skipping, engine shut down, poor gas mileage and etc. This can be removed and cleaned with a Mass Air Flow spray cleaner. Be sure to spray it about 10-15 times and let it dry before replacing the intake air pipe. On the other hand it could be a intermittent failure on a plug wire causing the skipping and misfire. Good Luck
