Question about 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

VW Jetta 2000

My recent purchase on its SECOND try run (away from the dealer of course) would not start. Actually it starts for a moment, then shuts off. I am told this may be electronic immobilzation. Can anyone tell me what this is, and prospective solutions? Thanks, much appreciated!

If it is the immobilizer, there should be a symbol on your dash that flashes a key/car. If that is the case, only a VW dealer is authorized to program your key.

MY CHRYSLER CONCORDE STARTS AND RUNS A MINUTE THEN SHUTS DOWN EVERY TIME YOU START IT IT SHUTS DOWN I PURCHASED ANEW BATTERY IT DOES THE SAME THING

IF the car turns over and then starts, the battery is not the problem. Did you recently get a new car key made? If you have a key with a code in it, the dealer will have to reload/program this code specific to your vehicle. This is of course for security. If someone tries to hotwire your car, then it will start but is designed to shut off in around a minute...

Valet Key Doesn't Start Engine

Sounds like the chip in the key is not allowing the security system to allow the car to start. You may need a new key from the dealer.

VW Jetta starts, then turns off immediately

try checking the throttle position sensor or the idle control valve both can keep it from running.

Starts runs than shuts off after replacing ignition wires and bat

The light with the key through the car is the immobilizer. When you changed the battery it must of screwed it up. You will likely need to tow it to the dealer.

Electronic immobilizer

most likely cause is the gauge cluster, this will have to be tested and service by your local dealership because the dash cluster and keys have to be coded. I have seen the immobilizer loose it's coding for apearantly no reason. therefore have them recode cluster and see if problem goes away, if it doesn't the gauge cluster will have to be replaced.
