Power Door Locks - 1996 Honda Accord Wagon - Rear Hatch

About a year ago a loud buzzing noise from the drivers door happens when the doors are locked. Two weeks ago when you open the power locks, the rear hatch lock pops up and then relocks itself making it impossible to open the hatch. Even if the hatch button is held up manually the hatch will not open. ANY IDEAS HOW TO FIX without incurring $$$? I can't get the hatch door open to remove the interior and get to the actuator. I can't believe Honda didn't add a way of opening the hatch manually from the inside.

I had the same problem. A weather mat got stuck when the hatch closed. After freeing the mat, the hatch would not open. The lock button would go up and down, but the hatch stayed locked.
What happened was the the plastic holder for the metal arm that connected the lock button to the mechanism broke.
There are no screws holding the inside panel, just metal tab clips.
First, I took off the inside close handle--2 bolts. Then I had to work my way from the center tail light, unscrewing it and popping off the left and right trim pieces--metal tab clips. These were covering the back panel. Now the hard part was getting the back panel off. It does pop off and I found it very hard to get something behind the edges.
The plastic holder that held the metal connector in place had broke. I used two plastic pull ties to hold the connector in it's place. Reversed the procedure and it works again.

I used a utility knife to create my own access panel in the plastic. Get huddled in the back interior with a utility knife and make a rectangular hole plenty big to get your hands through in the center and just up from the bottom a couple inches (just above the actual latch). Once you have visual access, you can watch the mechanism work and see where along the linkage your problem is. Mine was a broken plastic clip that was supposed to hold the 'L' end of metal arm into a hole. The arm was floating loose, and I re-secured it into the hole using some wire. You'll have duct tape decor (and an access panel where Honda should have put one in the first place) and hopefully a working hatch to show for it all when you're done.

1991 honda accord wagon why the doors lock but dont unlock


Could use a little more information about the car like manual or power locks. Will they unlock from the switch on either door? I'll assume power locks. The most likely culprit would be the door lock actuators. The parts are inexpensive, but the labor is not.

this could be broken wires in the space between the body of the car and the door panel itself.other wise it sounds like the door locks in the doors are bad.you don`t say if this started all of a sudden or one door started to not work then another and so on.its possible that it is the wires coming from the switches them self going to the other doors.

I have 97 honda accord 4 door. electric locks


Sounds like a sticking switch ( actuator ) in the door.
Pull off the door panel and , looking inside the door, follow the rod from the key to the actuator .
Clean the actuator and make sure it works freely before re assembly.

1998 Honda Accord Lx 4 door. Power door locks work intermittently


i had the same problem on my accord 98 coupe 98.
and one day they stop working. i changed the engines of the locks and now the doors are working gr8!

Master door switch? or something else? buzzes when i press lock


ok ur door lock switch isnt going out,,however ur drivers front door lock actuator is going or is already bad...have that replaced..also as far as the end noise buzz u hear , that may be ur a.b.s modulator and accumulator cycleing on and off..it may be empty and or leaking..have the a.b.s modulator and accumulator checked at the dealer..its an expensive fix... ur modulator unit in in the front left or right of the vehicle depending if u have a v6 or 4 cyl. its a square unit with a rectangular brake fluid resevroir and a long tubular cylinder (acummulator)... also identify it by the orange connectors...and the brakelines going to it...common symptom with those accords....they leak alot especially if with high mileage..

pull off the door panel ... it will either have a separate acctuator or it will be built in to the latching mechanism.
