Question about 1996 GMC Yukon

1 Answer

1996 GMC Yukon,5.7l wont start

I have had the battery check at Advance and it is strong. The starter is less than a month old but I had it tested as well and was told it was good. When I turn the key, all it does is click( the starter clicks as if it engauges but the engine doesn't turn over). When i had the starter off, I turned the fly-wheel and all seemed normal. The last time this happened i pulled the starter and it was bad, replacing it seemed to solve the problem(thats why the starter is less than a month old). It started and ran fine to get my kids to school and get me home, but when i tried to go to work,it wouldn't do anything.I'm stuck and would be greatfull for and help or ideas.

Sounds like a bad connection somewhere.Check the batt. terminals and the wire connections on the starter that they are clean and have a good connection. Also, where the starter bolts on is where the starter gets grounded.

On a gm car or truck i have found that the battery side post ends get corrosion in between the rubber and the round metal plate.
take bolt and metal plate out, clean and reinstall btoh positive and negative ends. it will almost for certain fix your issue.let me know how it goes.

check battery for enough cranking power, if battery is below 8 volts, your dash lights will work, but you wont have enough power to start the engine

check connections especially to the starter and to the engine ground-you might have a bad cable either going to the starter, or check the small wire connections at the starter soilenoid

94 gmc yukon will not start. bought a new battery and installed, still not starting, will not turn over. is it the starter? possibly the starter wires may have corroded?

You are probably right--but also check solenoid --it's quite old & if not repaired recently --probably is the problem. Bad ground wire or power wire as you say could be the problem.

My 2004 yukon xl wont start and it makes a clicking sound. battery sounds like it is weak, but had it tested and they said it was good. what is the problem

if battery is fully charged and checks good then have a helper hold the key in the start position while someone hits the starter with a hammer it may start this would show for sure the starter is the problem

1996 gmc jimmy will turn over but wont crank un less you put eather in it and when it starts up it runs normal but wont start with out eahter

Hmmm so the old boy wont start without some starting fluid eh?
I Love GM vehicles but I am not there. Here is a checklist of what I would ask myself were I there and able to test.
1. are the batteries and starter in good condition so it cranks at the speed it should without killing the voltage necessary to fire the injectors?
2. what is the fuel pressure to the injectors?
3. when was the last tuneup?

Id lean towards the fuel pressure because by this year it started being more critical and the pumps were in the tank and they would start going bad and causing all sorts of hard to troubleshoot problems. These days I pretty much start troubleshooting with checking fuel pressure.
Fuel pressure with the key on engine off should be 60-66. anything less then that could be a problem.

02 yukon denali xl wont start, i replaced battery, alternaor and starter are both good truck still wont start

Did you try to replace the starter cable? is the Truck turning over or just clicking.? If it's turning over and not starting. Best guess would be one of two things. Knock sensors Located under intake manifold. they get wet and deteriorate or the fuel pump. I've replaced all three on mine. 233k still running strong...
