Question about 1996 Volkswagen Golf

INTERMEDIATE START NO START.

Have a 1996 golf. sometimes will start but most of the time it wont. replaced coil, plugs and wires on it. think its the fuel pump I can hear it when key is on. sounds really loud. can't find resistance specs for pump anywhere. If anyone knows would be much appreciated. thanks

Change the sensor in the plastic housing at the front of the engine ,their are two of them change the one for the autochoke,if not sure change them both

check ignition S.w . check fuel pump. some time reading coil if getting hot it will not start make sure this happend when engine hot . but if when cold engine you have fuel pump or ignition S.W

Wont start sometimes. 0 codes on scanner. no spark at plugs. when it does start it runs good.


possible your distributor,plugs,wires. I have no ideal when the last tune up was done or how many miles. I would try the plug and wires first. Hope this helped tim

check spark plug wires and coils for moistore put some lube on the coil wires check for spark after it wont start if itll crank but not start its 1 of 2 thinks no spark or no fuel usally when the coils get too wet they wont allow spark to come through or will cause it to arc

96 Golf wont start .. turns over gets spark but wont start


Hate to do this hard way but assuming you have no test equip. Pull the starter and have the Auto Parts Store check it out on the bench tester for free.

I'd go with the new wires & cap. make sure you add dielectric grease to wires on each end too before snapping them in/on.

1996 Volkswagen Golf won't start in rain


I had this problem before, replace your cap & rotor if it wont start in the rain after that then replace your spark plug wires it will run you about 60 bucks for everything depending on where you go and then your on your way in the rain. Some hair line cracks can form in the cap that are not visible to the eye, and for the wires the can be shorting out to the block or head which is also not visible to the eye.

its a problem with some golfs
type worn coil pack golf tdi on google and you should see everything on it. i think theres an uprated set out now don't quote me on it tho!

Pull the CPS Plug apart and clean that.
It's the grey one near the cambelt end and leads down to the crankshaft pully.
