Question about 1999 Honda Accord

The engine loses power while driving at any speed.

While driving [at varies speeds] the engine stalls/loses power. I push in the clutch and turn ignition key to off. With clutch disengaged I turn key to start and let out on clutch. It then continues to run. Is it related to the computer?

Ok there can be many problems however have you looked at the exhaust system as being the problem. it may be catalytic converta blocked. or muffler,or resinator if fitted.
if this is the problem you will find engine temp higher than normal. Also feel the amount of exhaust gases coming out of the tail pipe. If a blockage is the culprit the exhaust note and pressure coming out of the tail pipe will be noticeable

Are there any dash light that are staying on while the vehicle is running? if not this could be related to the clutch it could be slipping possibly. let me know about the lights first. does the vehicle start fine on the intial start-up? if yes start the vehicle and put the car in third gear and try to take off. let me know what happens then? thank you i will help you figure this out.

Car goes into gear when idling but will not move

sounds like total lost of engine power, or the brakes are frozen in ice.
if you can push car by and with brakes off , is the engine bad.
the clutch is not bad, if you stall any engine.
so what engine,, they use many on Acura's
cant fix the engine or know EFI with out that fact.
Generic.
lost compression on any or all cylinders.
bad fueling. (lost fuel pressure)
its most likely not spark if it idles nice, but doing the 60k tuneup
is real good idea now that it dont run ,now.

old sparks can work with lose speed then under load misfire.

Transmission

A/T or M/T (auto or stick ,we dont know)
n moving in drive, reverse or Low or 1? or 2? (me too lazy to look what tranny you have)
it can be 2 things
1: lack of engine power
2: bad clutch or transmission

who do we tell? easy
you step on gas , RPM goes way high and MPH dont. (slips)
tranny slip.
you step on gas, RPM tracks with MPH, good ,
you then do the 5second max. tranny stall test in every car FSM made. and see the stall speed, with brakes hard set.
too high is tranny slip
way to low, engine power POOR.

alldata.com has all this on tranny. stall speed.
the FSM turn to on car A/T service, see STALL test.
bingo.
or youtube the vast number of videos on topic, stall.

wont move at all ,can be :
brake drag (passes stall test)
but first , the tests are, for bad engine or trans,
pick the one it is , state so, and we can go much farther.

So my car, at random, will randomly lose power. The Tachometer will dip about 500 rpm, and then bounce back. This will slowly increase until the car stalls out, and it happens whether i've popped the...

To start with please do the following:
- Check the spark plug cord's resistance. (8 K Ohms- 25 K Ohms).
- Check spark plug gaps. (0.7 mm - 0.8 mm).
- Check reluctor to pick-up air gap. (0.30 - 0.40 mm).
- Check distributor cap for cracks or water accumulation inside.
- Check ignition timing. (10 - 12 degrees at idle speed).
- Adjust engine idle speed to 650 - 750 rpm.
- Check the valve timing.

Hi, I recently been have a problem with my 1998 Honda, passport. While driving my Honda it would shut down then starts again on its own while rolling. At times it would not start again on its own you need...

sure, rolling in gear you mean. (same effect as push starting a car with M/T) what speed did it restart, 5mph or 50 or 85mph.?)
what transmission. A/T or M/T? BEG ERROR there !

shut down,?
you mean stalls,
and engine can do 3 things
run too slow (way below 800RPM idle , illegal idle speeds)
stalls (rpm goes to zero or you find zero power from the engine )
if you stop the car, and the engine stalls that is an engine stall.

or run perfectly.

does your model have a tachometer to you can see RPM?
and if idle controls work,
not posting the trans type, (non body does here) makes answers near impossible. infact most will just ignore you posts.

with a M?T car the engine immediately returns (hot ) to 800rpm
and is regulated very closely by the EFI brain (PCM)
if not you are seeing IDLE control failure.
with and A/T there is no MT clutch and when you stop
the autoclutch drags (wastes fuel like mad) and puts a huge load
on the engine, stopped say at a red light. the idle controls
on A/t are greatly taxed here.
so RPM can drop real low. fail. or stall. below 800
a stall happens at about 400 RPM.
the M/T can at any time be restarted on the fly (moving)
but just dumping the clutch. or just waiting as you coast in gear.
this is how push starting any M/T car works.
but on an A/T car , on the fly restarts take huge speeds.
and only works on A/T that have 2 oil pumps.
the A/T with no rear pump , the A/T can not be push starter
or coast restarted, if the front pump is dead(engine stalled)
im not looking up your tranny spec. because you never stated, it.

my engine stalls. (not tranny slip)
1: bad 12vdc power to any EFI system component.
2: never ever tuned up per the free operators guide in glove box.
3: lost engine compression. 1 or all cylinders.
4: lost spark. (or timed wrong, early cars have distributors)
5: bad fueling. too much or too little

when the engine runs , does the MIL, CEL glow running
btw the CEL also glows, at all stalls. the lamp only means.
I HAVE ELECT power, now.... only.

My 2002 1.8 mondeo holds back on power wen driven at town speed and engine cuts of wen driving but dip the clutch and engine will run again. any ideas

Have you checked the fuel filter? It may be time for a change. In a Manual transmission when it dies any time as long as your still rolling at a decent rate of speed you should be able to push the clutch in to start the engine back on.

Tach. drop's to zero while driving 70 ?

I have had the almost same problem twice. A 'thump', like the engine missed a fire and tach drops. Seems OK after restart. Electrical? Timing chain slip?
Has 135,000 mile. Any clues?

Stalls when brake

There is a total lack of information provided in this question.

DONT GIVE UP HOPE.

We have just had a long argument in reference to your Complex question, there are many reasons and as many or more reasons why, due to only the information provided, Results are below.

The most common vote.

THE SWAG:
You have more than one problem We also think that your overdrive is not kicking in, IF EQUIPED your doors no longer auto lock and poor fuel economy.

RECOMENDATION:
Replaced the failed speed. The stall happens when you push the clutch IF MANUAL due to the fact the PCM does not realize the vehicle is in motion, it literally thinks you are just setting there revving up the engine and during deceleration bring the engine back to an idle, Not so if your driving. The engine speed is consistent to ground speed and steps the engine idle down at a specific rate Thus keeping the engine from stalling.

We Hope this tip at the very least guides you to a solution to this problem.

NOTE:
A Bet is riding on your answer.

What are the symtoms of a bad clutch switch

If the engine revs up more than normal and your not gaining speed then the clutch is slipping. If you shift down to pass and then try to accelerate and the engine revs up but you don't gain speed, the clutch is slipping. If with the park brake on you can let the clutch out without stalling you need a clutch. If it makes a tinny sound when the clutch is pushed, you need a trow-out bearing

sounds like a ignition problem, try new cap rotor and wires and plugs if this does not fix your problem it is either your coil or distribitor
