Would start by checking linkage or the cable that runs to tranny. Tranny fluid level is correct? Check fluid level first. Run 15-20 mins and check with motor warmed and running

My 1990 Chrysler New Yorker 5th avenue will not shift up past second gear.

Probly no one ever changed the trans fluid, now you did and its to late,But get a bottle of Lucas trans slip.cost about 12$ at walmart, put the whole bottle in the trans,it is really thick, so heat the bottle on a register for a good while so that it will pour right in in this cold wheather.Let car run for 20 min. than try driveing it.if it wont move, let it rin another 20 min. if it moves drive it around untill it starts driveing better ,might take up to 3 days to get moved through trans real good.It worked for me on 6 cars now

When cold shutter when shifting from 1st to2nd and 2nd to 3rd.20 min.OK

change trans fluid and filter. trash in the fluid, once it warms up, the trash moves, when it cools down the trash settles back in causing it to shift improperly

Sorry I got to your question too late. Sometimes a weak solenoid doesn't get enough voltage. Some over come this with a relay bypass, a direct line from the battery to a relay controlled by the ignition to the solenoid. I'm glad you found the problem.

I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma. During the last 2 months when I start the truck in the morning I hear a "tac, tac, tac, tac ...." noise for 30s to 1 min than it stops when I drive away. This...

This is most likely a noisy lifter (or valve tappet). In cold weather, the clearances in the valve train open up because metal contracts due to the cold. Once the oil pressure comes up after start the noise goes away because the larger clearance fills with oil and the lifter becomes "cushioned" with the oil. The proper fix is to have the valves adjusted. I believe in your model, that is done by putting shims on the lifters. This will quiet the noisy lifters. In the short term, you can try using a lighter weight oil for cold weather. This will get the oil to the lifters faster after start up and quiet the tapping more quickly. Once the weather warms again, shift back to the normal weight.
