Question about 2003 Cadillac Escalade

Open Question

Ride control , stability system problems

Both the service ride control and check stability system appear on the DIC. I also notice the speedometer can read 80 mph when stopped. after driving for several miles the ride control and stabilty system indicators return and the brakes are engaged. So it left us on the side of the road for about 20minutes then restarted the car and drove home slowly without any more trouble. We've parked it in the garage until I get and idea of what the problem is and what its going to cost. man i miss that car

SOURCE: Stability System

Better check your Alternator. I just replaced mine in my Deville Concours (99), as the battery was dying the stability system message came across. Then when THAT Alternator went out (yea, 4 months later under warranty thank God) I got the same message on the way home that day. I will tell you, if you plan to do it yourself like I did ~ It is a SOB to change. No ifs, ands or buts. Get a halfway decent mechanic to do it unless you want to fight with it for 3 days. Oh - it comes out a trap door at the bottom of the car in the front. You have to unbolt that plate once you get the 4 or 5 huge bolts out of the Alternator...Assuming THAT is your problem. Note, the bolt in the center does not come out and it is the worst one to get to. Take the radiator fan out so you can reach everything. Have I scared you enough.. I hope so. It only took me a week and half to get mine OUT, fixed and BACK in.

SOURCE: Fluctuating Speedometer

The speed senser is mounted on the transmission. This device is an slocrto magnatic motor and they cost less than $100 there held in with one bolt and have an electrical connector. Many times if it's bad enough the check engine light will come on. This problem but the heating up but work OK cild is a good chance the senser has failed.. The trans mission should be checked for overheating as the senser failure will be heal related

Why does the Service ride control light comes on?

There are a number of reasons that could cause the light to come on. When the light is on it goes into default mode and the suspension is held in one position. You'll have to get it into a repair facility to have codes checked to determine the cause.

If the system fails to turn on or activate, the StabiliTrak®

light along with one of the following messages will be

displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC):

TRACTION CONTROL OFF, SERVICE TRACTION

CONTROL, SERVICE STABILITRAK. If you see these

conditions, turn the vehicle off, wait 15 seconds, and then

turn it back on again to reset the system. If any of these

messages still appear on the Driver Information Center

What is an average cost to service the Stabilitrak System in a 2002 Cadillac Escalde

If the system fails to turn on or activate, the StabiliTrak light along with one of the following messages will be displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC): TRACTION CONTROL OFF, SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL, STABILITRAK OFF, SERVICE STABILITRAK. If these DIC messages appear, make sure the StabiliTrak system has not been turned off using the StabiliTrak on/off button. Then turn the steering wheel clockwise from the nine o'clock position to the three o'clock position. If this clears the message(s), the vehicle does not need servicing. If this does not clear the message(s), then turn the vehicle off, wait 15 seconds, and then turn it back on again to reset the system. If any of these messages still appear on the DIC, the vehicle should be taken in for service.

I have a wrench with a car swerving light up every once in awhile but I have no idea what it means and I have no idea what stabilitrak is

{: ) A car swerving light on the instrument cluster is the StabiTrak indicator, sometimes called the traction control indicator. A wrench beside it tells it requires servicing.

Your vehicle is equipped with StabiliTrak, which combines antilock brake, traction and stability control systems and helps the driver maintain directional control of the vehicle in most driving conditions.
Traction control activates when the controller senses wheel spin. StabiliTrak will selectively apply the brakes and reduce engine torque to help regain traction.
Stability control activates when the controller senses a discrepancy between your intended path and the direction the vehicle is travelling. StabiliTrak selectively applies braking pressure at any one of the vehicle's brakes to help guide the vehicle in the direction which you are steering.
When you first start your vehicle and begin to drive away, the system performs several diagnostic checks to insure there are no problems. You may hear or feel the system working. This is normal and does not mean there is a problem with your vehicle. If driving conditions delay system initialization, the STABILITRAK NOT READY message may be displayed. If this is the case, your vehicle does not need servicing.
When the StabiliTrak system is both on and actively controlling the stability of the vehicle, the StabiliTrak light will blink for the duration of the event.
You may also feel or hear the system working. This is normal.
StabiliTrak will turn off automatically if a problem is detected in the system. The StabiliTrak light will come on and SERVICE STABILITRAK will be displayed on the DIC. For vehicles without a DIC, the StabiliTrak light and the StabiliTrak service light will both come on. If the SERVICE STABILITRAK message (or StabiliTrak service light) does not clear itself after restarting the vehicle, you should see your dealer for service.

What does a c on the dic mean?

Your vehicle has a Driver Information Center (DIC).
All messages will appear in the DIC display located
below the speedometer in the instrument panel cluster.
The DIC buttons are located on the instrument panel,
to the left of the instrument panel cluster.
The DIC comes on when the ignition is on. After a short
delay, the DIC will display the information that was
last displayed before the engine was turned off.
The DIC displays trip, fuel, and vehicle system
information, and warning messages if a system problem
is detected. The bottom line of the DIC shows the
shift lever position indicator. See Automatic
Transmission Operation on page 3-23
for more
information.
If your vehicle’s DIC has these features, the compass
direction and the outside air temperature may also
display on the DIC when viewing the trip and fuel
information. The compass direction appears on the top
right corner of the DIC display. The outside air
temperature automatically appears in the bottom right
corner of the DIC display. If there is a problem with the
system that controls the temperature display, the
numbers will be replaced with dashes. If this occurs,
have the vehicle serviced by your dealer/retailer.
The DIC also allows some features to be customized.
See DIC Vehicle Customization on page 4-66 for
more information.

Service stability system message appears

i believe your vehicle has air ride suspension in addition to coil springs. i would check the lines that run from the air pump to the air bags. they will black lines that are located near each strut and will go to a pump that is located somewhere iether underneath the vehicle or inside a fender.

What does service system stability mean on my 2001 Cadillac

This refers to the suspension and steering, you probably have a faulty sensor somewhere.
One of the most common sensors to fail in this system is the steering wheel position sensor.
You need to run a diagnostic check to pull the trouble codes to pinpoint the faulty component.

How to pull the codes.....

Use the 3 switches located to the right (LH drive cars) of the Driver Information Center (DIC) to activate and respond to the OBD prompts on the DIC.

ON/OFF = YES
INFO RESET = NO
INFO DOWN or INFO UP = manual toggle

Ignition ON, acknowledge any warning messages;.
Press ON/OFF and INFO UP together for 2 to 3 seconds. Everything in front of you lights up for 4 or 5 seconds, then you will see:

Display shows "ALL?"

Answering YES will display "ALL CODES?"
Answering YES will run automatic test sequence and display codes, if any.

"ALL CLEAR CODES?" will display at the end of the automatic test. If you are satisfied you have the information you need, answer YES to clear/erase all error codes.

Answering "ALL?" with INFO DOWN will toggle systems test manually in order.
Answering "ALL?" with INFO UP will toggle system test manually in reverse order.

Press INFO RESET to reset DIC to "ALL?" to start again.

Ignition OFF to exit.

Write down the codes as they appear on the DIC, you may need to run the check again as it tends to scroll through quickly.

Report back here with the codes.
