Have the same problem. It looks like the computer of the vehicle lost the key-code. (chip in the key with a code) Apparentely the computer of the vehicle will lose that code after being disconected from the batterie more then a month.

It is a common promblem with the Sorento, I did have the same promblem with my 03 sorento, and same with a co-worker who has a 05 sorento and you can also google it too, and it cost me well over 600us dollar to replace and fill/oil/llube and get it working. The compressor new was 289.00 and labor+, depressuring the ac refrigerant and all total was 637.88. If you plan on having this car over the summer and going without ac, that is fine. My compressor went broke for about a year until I had enough money to fix it, however since then, it went well for about 2 years, until I trade it off. I would say the sorento are cheap, which kia is.. It loose value, cheap to buy compare to other, but is a piece of junk and is very expensive to fix due to the expense of parts.
I have a 03's sorento and this is quite a common promblem with these cars. First there has been a recall for these cars, if you havn't got it done, get it done, It's free of charge. The recall is the Camshaft Position Sensor. It will cause the car to run unstable, break and engine stall and causes accident and the engine light will come on. Secondly I had the same promblem that you were having, engine was shaking and sputtering and check engine light came on. What I found out is it is the EVAP Emission control system leak large bank 1 & bank 2 system too lean sensor problem. Had to take it to the shop to get the mass sensor replaced. It was a $900.oo + job, I recommend you taking it to the shop to get it diagnos to see what code it is giving you so you would know what exactly you are dealing with.
