Ok first of all The Ignition Modgule you need to replace that 26 bucks It is weak Kaputt 10 min to do that The 96 chevy pick is a awsome truckThere are very few things that go wrong with this truck and it is caused by normal ware mostly except for the head lights whitch I changed the light bucketts out and went to seal beams and seeing distance is great that way. Ok on them ( the starter switch) That is a cause of many problems door locks windows They wear out you know what I am saying it is a 96 ( Never never sell the truck you will hate yourself for it) Always keep clean oil in it always better yet go to synthetic 5 30 oil and have the trainie flushed every year keep it clean. These trucks are classic if it is a step side they are sexey doll it up and find a second auto and hide it is a garage it is worth more than you know.Like I said I own one 600 thousand miles and runs like new. But yeah the most things on these trucks are the Ignition Modgule and the fuel pumps in the tank. The fuel pump take the bed off and change that out 20 min to do that. Like I said you have a awsome truck Love them best one chevy ever made count on it.
first of all at first problem i hooked up a scanner tool and found codes for mass air flow sensor and cam position sensor and purge solenoid, i change out cam and maf sensors out and still had problem and started checking fuses and the truck kept blowing the number 1 engine fuse under the hood fuse box, after some investagating i found bare wires rubbing on metal including the 02 sensors wires after fixing those wires it stopped blowing that fuse, i then took it to a shop for the first time, second time ive ever taken a vechical in, and just my luck he took it for a drive and called me 10 minutes later and said hey man your truck is sitting on the side of the hiway and wont start and that i needed to go get it so after a tow fee back to my house i checked fuel pressure and ended up replacing the fuel pump and sending unit it was in sad shape as well so while i had the bed figured i should replace it any way it runs again and now back to figureing out what the cutting out is, it now has a service engine soon light on again so i'll be hookin to scanner again tomorrow and going from there but cant help but wonder about loose or bad wires some where with the cutting out and the wipers and power windows still working with no key in the ignition and wonder about ingnition switch itself cause i have seen it run fine for 20 miles or so straight and then acting up again after pulling the key out and restarting it

SOURCE: where is the fuel pump shutoff switch located on a 1996 chevy silverado 1500 located
Should be on the passenger side kickplate below the glovebox and to the right. You may have to remove the plastic panel to access it or look for a small hole in it and feel around for the button

Check for a loose fuse or loose wiring to the wiper. Also check for tight ground connection at the motor. The 'park' switch which completes each cycle may be intermittent. It might be a worn switch at the steering wheel.
